Students contribute 2.9 million bytes in April
[edit]Students participating in the Public Policy Initiative this year have been making a large contribution to Wikipedia's article content, including a record-breaking April. Last month, students added 2.9 million bytes of content to the article namespace (that means article content only, not talk pages or sandboxes). That's the equivalent of about 1,944 printed pages of high quality content -- in just one month! Congratulations to all of our participating professors and students. LSU publishes extensive article on coursework
[edit]The Louisiana State University website currently features a spotlight panel on LSU students' contributions to Wikipedia as part of coursework. The lengthy article -- and handful of images accompanying it -- provides an in-depth explanation of the institutional commitment the university has made to integrating Wikipedia into the curriculum. Campus Ambassador Rebecca Burdette, assistant director of LSU's Communication Across the Curriculum department, describes the work she's done to assist professors. Read the full article.
Wikipedia talk taped for iBioMagazine
[edit]Wikimedia Foundation Head of Public Outreach Frank Schulenburg taped a 10-minute talk last week for iBioMagazine, a video series that highlights the human element of scientific research, sponsored in part by the University of California at San Francisco. Frank's talk focused on how Wikipedia's scientific coverage can make a difference in peoples' lives and why scientists should contribute to the content on Wikipedia. The video should be available at the end of the month. See more about iBioMagazine.
Regional Ambassadors sought
[edit]As we begin the transition from a staff-led Wikipedia Ambassador program to a volunteer-led program, we need a few great volunteers located across the country who are willing to coordinate efforts. These Regional Ambassadors will facilitate communication between Campus Ambassadors and professors and recruiting new program participants. We still need Regional Ambassadors in New England, the Great Lakes area, D.C., and the South. Know someone who would be good (or interested yourself)? Send them to this page.
