U.S. Route 40 Alternate (Keyser's Ridge-Cumberland) (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) review Passing --Admrboltz (talk) 23:15, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Suggestion: No suggestion given regarding A-Class
- Nominator's comments: This is an article I've worked on extensively, and I think it's ready to face some scrutiny.

- I'm curious though, shouldn't Maryland be in the article title someplace. Aka U.S. Route 40 Alternate (Keyser's Ridge–Cumberland, Maryland)? Btw, this article is titled using a hyphen instead of an endash. You should move it and provide a redirect to the hyphenate title.
- Moved.
- The images are all appropriately tagged, with the one tagged to be moved to Commons. I am curious about Image:NationalRoad1.jpg though. The image description page says it is on US 40, not ALT US 40, but the article says the opposite. Can you clarify this for me?
- Alt US 40 is correct. The bridge shown in the image is the 1933 Casselman River bridge, which is on Alt US 40. - Algorerhythms (talk) 20:55, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Ok, cool. Glad to clear that up. Imzadi1979 (talk) 21:16, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- I'll come back later to review the prose. Imzadi1979 (talk) 20:49, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Support though could you reword the intro sentence to paragraph two of the RD, both the first and second paragraphs start with Alt US 40. --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 20:57, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I've reworded this sentence. - Algorerhythms (talk) 13:46, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Explain some acronyms before the first use of each, as these are non-standard uses for these acronyms outside of the roadgeek community. I.E. PA-XXX as Pennsylvania Route XXX, MD-XXX as Maryland route XXX.
- I've changed the first mention of each to read "Maryland Route X (MD X)".
- As currently written the route description is mostly redundant with the major intersections table. I would like to see more content on the geography and notable landmarks etc. As this is the original route of the National Road, built before the advent of earth moving equipment, when roads were forced to follow the natural contours of the terrain or pay for manual labor to chisel and dynamite cuts away one inch at a time, I presume there this route is one of the simpler geographic crossings of the Appalachians. Using the Terrain view of Google Maps this appears to be the case. This appears to be a series of relatively low spots in the various ridges of the Appalachians. That is clearly the case with the Narrows, where US40 Alt appears to be using Wills creek as a guide through the eastern half of the range. It also appears to be routed through a canyon between Frostburg and Allegany Grove, though Google Maps doesn't have a name in this view or the waterway that carved the canyon. The summit (I know that's a western US term, sorry I don't know the appropriate word for Appalachia) is either by the jct with SR-546 or near the the western terminus, both are about 2800 ft per google. Do these summits have a name, is one of these the briefly mentioned Savage Mountain? Is this the highest point along US-40 through the mountains? (It appears so extending outwards on either side, US 40 drops to 1000 ft fairly rapidly. Anyways, you get my point, this is the kind of stuff I like to see for mountain roads.
- I added mentions of the mountains that Alt US 40 traverses. As it turns out, the highest point is neither Savage Mountain nor Keyser's Ridge, but Negro Mountain, a couple miles east of Keyser's Ridge.
- The history section looks pretty good.
- Thanks.
- The freeway, first designated as US 48, (or then, or at the time, whatever, but need to clarify this is a former designation in some way)
- Changed.
- I would remove the entry for Savage Mountain in the major intersections, that's the stuff that belongs in the route description IMO.
- Changed. - Algorerhythms (talk) 17:28, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
IMo the history section is well written, the rd needs some work, but this is easily do-able. Congrats on a job well done. Dave (talk) 16:09, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Comments - Be more precise with wording - "site" of a road?
- Changed to "route."
- lead 3rd par - "has diminished" instead of is?
- Changed to "has diminished."
- 1 - repeating mileage again - that necessary?
- It's not really necessary, so I removed it.
- 1.1 second sentence - no comma?
- Incorrect comma removed.
- 3rd sentence - "very" is not a very descriptive word.
- This sentence has been reworded.
- MD 495 - should be spelled out first time
- Same with US 219
- Throughout the rest of the RD - check that you spell MD out the first time
- I went through the route description and changed all the first appearances of routes to the full name, with (MD NNN) after if the route number appears again later in the article. I don't think I missed any, but if I did, let me know.
- Jct list - western needs to be capitalized
- Capitalized.
- Exit 44? Of what?
- Of I-68, but since it's not really necessary (it's mentioned in the prose), I removed it.
- Comprehensive article - good job! --Rschen7754 (T C) 04:04, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
