[edit]M-185 (Michigan highway) (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) review
- Suggestion: Promote to A-Class
- Nominator's comments: The next MSHP ACR nomination for a truly unique roadway. I'm also looking for any assistance in expanding the article. There are other sources out there for information, but Bessert isn't going to cut it, so... if you have suggestions on what can be added without overly duplicating the other three Mackinac Island articles )city of, the physical island and the state park) I'm all ears.

Hidden Comments
- Is there a way to move the image down a bit to get it between the infobox and the exit list, as on my res, the infobox and image squeeze the text between them
- The beltway city item in the infobox could be used as well.
- Even though "the only state highway in the country that does not allow cars." is a direct quote, this is factually inaccurate... is there any way we could signify that?
- MDOT doesn't need to be wikilinked in every reference, just the first.
- Is the commons cat really needed with just the image listed in the article as the only image in the cat?
- I don't know that I'd count this as a beltway of Mackinac Island, Michigan. It is the only state highway without cars. A certain editor is claiming otherwise, but his proof is a ferry, not a highway. Ferry!=highway; ferry=boat. The references are an easy fix we can do after expansion so that which ever one comes first gets the link, lest we have to fuss around as the text gets expanded and rearranged during this ACR. The commons cat is for future expansion as we find other photos and upload them/retag them on commons.Imzadi1979 (talk) 05:13, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Comments - Not sure, but I'd think that for such a unique road, it would be possible to find more information about it. Other than that, it's a well-written article. - Algorerhythms (talk) 03:07, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Support - Looks good. - Algorerhythms (talk) 21:46, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]- There may not be much else from RSs we can add, but that's part of the reason I've brought this article here too. Imzadi1979 (talk) 05:13, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comments - Without a doubt one of the more unusual road articles in the USRD project. I would like to see more history and more commentary on the island. For example, from the lone picture it appears this island is mostly affluent residential, any notable mansions or residents? Is it purely developed, or are there undeveloped parts of the island, any industry? Speaking of photos, MORE, MORE, MORE, this is an interesting setup that few of use will actually be able to see, so the more the better. Here as some specific recommendations:
- "as MDOT does not erect the standard M-route signs itself" As written implies that MDOT doesn't sign any highways. I'm sure that's not what you meant.
- I'd remove the legend in the major intersections table, as none of those codes are actually used in the table.
- The lead mentions the island is accessed by ferry, but this is not mentioned in the article. Lead shouldn't have new material.
- If you have a source for the width, I'd recommend giving the width of the roadway. However, I'm guilty of the same, I recently nominated UT-128 calling it a "narrow" road without specifying (couldn't find a source).

- Comments Does Washington State Route 339 count as a route not allowing cars? --Rschen7754 (T C) 19:50, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- True... but WA 339 is on a passenger ferry, and M-185 is an actual road. ~~ ĈĠ ☺ Simple? 00:24, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comments: Route 185 should have a turn-by-turn route description, not a summary. I feel that with such a short highway, that this should be possible. Give this article some more info, and you should be good. Also look into the history of Macinac Island if you want an FACable article.Mitch32(UP) 23:37, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Route 185? Do I need to get out the trout? Imzadi1979 (talk) 02:59, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the additions to the RD, but a few comments. Mackinaw City is the Village on the LP mainland. Mackinac Island is a City encompassing the whole of the island of that name and adjacent Round Island. So if you're on the island, you never leave the city limits, you just enter and exit the state park territory. Something else to add would be some brief info on the history of the name for British Landing. IIRC, that's where the British landed during the Battle of Mackinac Island, the first battle of the War of 1812. Also even though it's not directly on the trunkline, some mention of the Grand Hotel should be added as well. Imzadi1979 (talk) 06:56, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Comments Infobox - would "Beltway" be better? The current setup for the terminii is misleading.
- USRD standards aren't clear as to how to handle this situation. This should be addressed before FAC - however, I won't make this an objection for ACR. --Rschen7754 (T C) 21:28, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- RD doesn't name the highway.
- Fixed.Mitch32(UP) 20:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- 1.1 - lost a space b/t sentence 1 and 2
- Fixed.Mitch32(UP) 20:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- At the zero mile marker, M-185 head - add s to heads
- Fixed.Mitch32(UP) 20:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Shouldn't use heads twice in same sentence
- Fixed.Mitch32(UP) 20:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- rephrase last sentence of 1.1 - a bit hard to understand - would probably be better to merge that into sentence before it
- Fixed.Mitch32(UP) 20:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Differing precision in the jct table
- Fixed.Mitch32(UP) 20:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Article seems a bit underlinked - can this be fixed? --Rschen7754 (T C) 02:24, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
