[edit]Location and General Description of Property
[edit]The railroad of West River Railroad Company, herein called the West River Railroad, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in Vermont. The owned mileage extends from Brattleboro to South Londonderry and consists of 35.397 miles of road and 2.519 miles of yard tracks and sidings, making a total of 37.916 miles of all tracks.
Corporate History
[edit]The West River Railroad was incorporated under the general laws of Vermont on April 21, 1905, with principal office at St. Albans, Vt. On the date of its incorporation it acquired under foreclosure proceedings, the property of the Brattleboro and Whitehall Railroad Company. It is operated by the carrier, under lease dated December 1, 1891, the details of which are given in report on the carrier. Development of Fixed Physical Property
[edit]On date of incorporation the West River Railroad acquired under foreclosure proceedings the property of the Brattleboro and Whitehall Railroad Company, which consisted of about 35.7 miles of single-track, 3-foot gage, railroad, extending from Brattleboro to South Londonderry, Vt. In 1905 the gage was standardized and on date of valuation the length of the road as inventoried by us was 35.397 miles.
Leased Railway Property
[edit]The property of the West River Railroad is operated by the carrier under the terms of a lease made by the New London Northern to the Consolidated Railroad Company of Vermont under date of December 1, 1891, and assigned to carrier under date of April 30, 1899. Further details regarding this lease have been given in the report on the carrier.
