The railroad of the Waycross and Southern Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in southeastern Georgia. The main line extends southerly from Hebardville to Hopkins, a distance of 20.010 miles. The carrier also owns 5.723 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 25.733 miles of all tracks owned and used.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated June 2, 1910, under the general laws of the State of Georgia, for a period of 99 years, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Hebardville to Fredel, Ga. On May 1, 1912, the charter of the carrier was amended, authorizing the extension of the road from Fredel, southwesterly, to Hopkins, Ga. The date of organization was June 13, 1910.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

Ga., a distance of 20.010 miles, was all acquired by direct purchase from the Hebard Cypress Company. That portion of the road extending from Hebardville to Fredel, Ga., a distance of 9.907 miles, was constructed by the Hebard Cypress Company in 1909 and operated for logging purposes until 1910, when it was sold to the carrier and conveyed by deed dated August 18, 1910. The remaining portion, extending from Fredel to Hopkins, Ga., a distance of 10.043 miles, was also constructed by the Hebard Cypress Company between 1910 and 1912 and subsequently sold to the carrier and conveyed by deed dated October 24, 1912. There is a difference of 0.010 mile between the mileage recorded by the carrier, 20 miles, and the mileage, 20.010 miles, inventoried as of date of valuation.
