The railroad of the Waukegan, Rockford & Elgin Traction Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in the northeastern part of Illinois. The owned mileage extends in a northwesterly direction from Palatine to Wauconda, Ill., a distance of 12.130 miles. The carrier also owns and uses 1.069 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 13.199 miles of all tracks.

The carrier was incorporated January 19, 1909, under the general laws of the State of Illinois.
