Location and general description of property.—The railroad of The Washington, Potomac & Chesapeake Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam-operated railroad, consisting of two disconnected parts. The portion lying in Maryland extends southeasterly from Brandywine, Md., to Mechanicsville, Md., a distance of 20.242 miles. The portion lying in the District of Columbia extends southeasterly from Chesapeake Junction to the District line, a distance of 2.047 miles. The total length of the two lines is 22.289 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 1.847 miles. Its road thus embraces 24.136 miles of all tracks owned.
Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated March 14, 1910, under the general laws of Maryland, for a period of 10 years, with authority to acquire the property of The Washington, Potomac and Chesapeake Railroad Company, which property had been purchased by Henry W. Watson at a foreclosure sale on January 11, 1910.
