The railroad of Washington, Idaho & Montana Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located in the east-central part of Washington and the northern part of Idaho. The owned mileage extends in a general westwardly direction from Palouse, Wash., to Purdue, Idaho, a distance of 49.336 miles.
The following is a summary, by States, of the mileage owned and used by the carrier:
Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated March 10, 1905, under the general laws of the State of Maine. The purpose for which the carrier was incorporated was to construct, own, and operate railroads and appurtenances in any or all States and jurisdictions when and where permissible under the laws of such States, etc. The date of organization of the carrier was not disclosed by the records. Its principal office is located at Augusta, Me. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.

Construction of the road owned on date of valuation was begun by the carrier's own forces in July, 1905, and completed in October, 1907. Operation of a part of the road was begun in October, 1905, and extended to other portions as completed.
