The railroad of The Wabash, Chester and Western Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in southwestern Illinois. The main line extends northeasterly from Menard, near Chester, to Mount Vernon, a distance of 64.811 miles. The carrier also owns 6.806 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 71.617 miles of all tracks wholly owned and used.


DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, amounting to 64.811 miles, was all acquired by purchase. The names of the corporations which constructed the property, and the dates of construction, are indicated below.

Acquired by purchase from The Iron Mountain, Chester and Eastern Railroad Company, Mar. 29, 1878, constructed by The Chester and Tamaroa Coal and Railroad Company, Chester to Tamaroa, Ill., completed March, 1872 41.000
Acquired by purchase from the Chester and Kaskaskia Railroad Company, Mar. 29, 1878, constructed by that company, Chester to Menard, Ill., constructed between Nov. 1, 1877, and Mar. 29, 1878 1.000
