The railroad of the Union Terminal Railway Company (of St. Joseph, Mo.), herein called the carrier, is a standard-gauge, steam-operated, switching road, located in the city of St. Joseph, Mo. The carrier owns 4.310 miles of first main track, 1.700 miles of second main track, and 10.420 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 16.430 miles of all tracks owned and used. In addition, it has joint use of tracks and terminal facilities owned by other carriers, as shown in the leased-railway-property chapter of Appendix 2.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated November 22, 1901, under the general laws of the State of Missouri, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad in and through the city of St. Joseph, Mo., furnishing connection between the tracks of the St. Joseph Stock Yards Company at South St. Joseph, Mo., and the lines of various railroad companies entering the city of St. Joseph, Mo.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, amounting to 4.310 miles of first main track, 1.700 miles of second main track and 10.420 miles of yard tracks and sidings was all acquired by construction with its own forces, with the exception of the reclamation work along the Missouri River, which was performed by contractors. The dates of commencement and completion of the first section of road were not ascertained, but commercial operations began January 11, 1905. Subsequently, additions were made to the property, the exact details of which were not determined.
