The railroad of the Tavares and Gulf Rail Road Company, herein called the Tavares and Gulf, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in eastern Florida. The main line extends southeasterly from Ellsworth Junction to Ocoee, a distance of 28.412 miles, with a branch line extending from the main line at Waits Junction westerly to Clermont, aggregating 34.325 miles of first main track. The company also owns 2.271 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 36.596 miles of all tracks owned and used.

The Tavares and Gulf has trackage rights over the road of the Seaboard from Ellsworth Junction to Tavares, Fla., a distance of about 4 miles.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The Tavares and Gulf was incorporated April 5, 1890, under the general laws of the State of Florida, for the purpose of acquiring the property, rights, and franchises of the Tavares, Apopka and Gulf Railroad Company, which was done. However, such property has not been formally conveyed to the Tavares and Gulf. The Tavares, Apopka and Gulf Railroad Company was incorporated October 10, 1881, under the general laws of the State of Florida. Its property, rights, and franchises were sold at foreclosure on January 6, 1890, and were conveyed to Henry H. Jackson by deed dated March 28, 1890. The date of organization has not been ascertainable from the records reviewed.
