The railroad of the Skaneateles Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in the central part of the State of New York. The main line extends southeasterly from Skaneateles Junction to Skaneateles, 4.949 miles. The carrier also owns 1.799 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 6.748 miles of all tracks owned and used.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated April 17, 1866, by special act of the State of New York, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Skaneateles to a connection with the New York Central Railroad at Skaneateles Junction, N. Y. The date of organization of the carrier has not been ascertainable from the records reviewed. The report of the New York Railroad Commissioners for 1899 indicates that the property was sold August 1, 1898, to W. K. Niver, of Syracuse, N. Y., but there is nothing in the records reviewed to indicate that a new corporation was formed.
- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The road owned by the carrier, extending from Skaneateles, N. Y., to a connection with the railroad of The New York Central Railroad Company at Skaneateles Junction, N. Y., a distance of 4.949 miles, was all acquired by construction, which was completed about October 1, 1867. The minute book of the company indicates that the construction work was performed by Eben Bean, contractor, who was affiliated with the company.
