- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The mileage owned by the Schuylkill Valley Navigation and Railroad, amounting to 17.073 miles, was acquired by construction and by purchase. The records indicate that about 14 miles of the road were originally constructed for horse operation, and opened in 1830. This section was reconstructed for steam operation in 1845 and 1846. In 1852 the Tuscarora Branch, about 3 miles in length, was purchased from individual owners.
