The railroad of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in the western part of California. The owned mileage extends from a connection with the line of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, 2 miles south of Leonard, 17.775 miles. The carrier also operates exclusively, under lease, 4.413 miles between Guadalupe and Betteravia, owned by the Southern Pacific. The carrier wholly owns and uses 19.862 miles of all tracks and uses but does not own 4.984 miles of all tracks. These tracks are classified in the trackage table in Appendix 1.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated July 14, 1911, under the general laws of the State of California, for the purpose of affording access by rail to the Santa Maria oil fields of California. The date of organization was July 28, 1911.
- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The owned mileage of the carrier, extending from Betteravia Junction to Leonard, Calif., 17.775 miles, was acquired by construction during the period from September, 1911, to March, 1912, under a contract with the Palmer Annex Oil Company.
