The railroad operated by the San Diego and Arizona Railway Company, herein called the San Diego and Arizona, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in southwestern California. The mileage owned and used aggregates 136.563 miles of road and consists of a disconnected main line and two branches. The main line extends southeasterly from San Diego to the international boundary near Tia Juana, Mexico, and from the international boundary near Division, Calif., in an easterly direction to Seeley. One branch projects from San Diego to Lakeside and the other from National City to Chula Vista and Coronado. The company also owns but does not use 4.689 miles of road, comprising a line between San Diego and National City, Calif., which is leased to and operated by the San Diego Electric Railway Company.
In addition to the foregoing, the San Diego and Arizona operates under lease 8.732 miles of road between Seeley and El Centro, Calif., owned by the Southern Pacific Company, and 0.690 mile of road in San Diego, Calif., owned by the San Diego Electric Railway Company. It also has trackage rights over 11.301 miles of the road of other carriers, most of which provides trackage between El Centro and Calexico, Calif.
The San Diego and Arizona wholly owns and uses 173.041 miles of all tracks, wholly owns but does not use 4.946 miles of all tracks, and wholly uses but does not own 10.884 miles of all tracks. These tracks, consisting of main tracks and yard tracks and sidings, are further classified in the trackage table in appendix 1.
The San Diego and Arizona is controlled jointly by the Southern Pacific Company and the J. D. and A. B. Spreckels Securities Company. It controls the Tijuana and Tecate Railway Company, a Mexican corporation, whose line [?]

- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The recorded mileage owned by the San Diego and Arizona amounts to 141.251 miles, of which 86.245 miles were acquired by construction and 55.006 by purchase. The inventoried mileage exceeds the recorded by 0.001 mile. Of the 9 predecessor corporations, 2 did not construct or improve any property and 3 only improved property completed by others. The 55.006 miles of road acquired by purchase from the San Diego & South Eastern Railway Company were constructed as follows: San Diego, Cuyamaca and Eastern Railway Company, San Diego to Lakeside, 22 miles, and Lakeside to Foster, 3.32 miles; Coronado Railroad Company, San Diego to Coronado, 22.22 miles, and Ferry Landing to Hotel del Coronado, Coronado (electric line) 2.27 miles; partial construction by the National City and Otay Railway Company (of 1887) and completed by the National City and Otay Railway Company (of 1888), San Diego to Tia Juana, 18.70 miles, and Sweetwater Junction to La Presta, 7.88 miles.
