[edit]The railroad of The Piqua and Troy Branch Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Piqua and Troy Branch, is a single-track branch line, located entirely within the State of Ohio and extends from Troy to Piqua, a distance of 8.641 miles.
Introductory
[edit]The Piqua and Troy Branch is a corporation of Ohio, having its principal office at Cincinnati, Ohio. No accounting records, except some data relating to the cost of land, of the Piqua and Troy Branch were obtained. Therefore, no information can be given from its accounts regarding its financial dealings, corporate operations, or investments. However, certain data indicated below were obtained from the records of the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad Company and The Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railway Company, and from other sources.
The Piqua and Troy Branch is controlled by the Toledo and Cincinnati through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock. The Baltimore and Ohio owns all of the capital stock of the Toledo and Cincinnati. The records do not indicate that this company controls any other common-carrier corporation. The property of the Piqua and Troy Branch was operated from April 19, 1887, to July 17, 1917, by the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad Company and The Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railway Company, and from July 18 to December 31, 1917, by the Baltimore and Ohio. There is no record of the manner of its operation from the date of completion to April 19, 1887. Since January 1, 1918, it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as part of the Baltimore and Ohio system.
Corporate History
[edit]The Piqua and Troy Branch was incorporated October 1, 1881, under the general laws of Ohio for the purpose of constructing a railroad from Troy to a point near Piqua, Ohio. The date of organization has not been ascertained from the records reviewed.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
[edit]The road owned, 8.641 miles, was acquired by construction in 1883, originally 8.64 miles, increased 0.17 mile by revision in 1905. The difference between recorded mileage and mileage inventoried as of date of valuation is 0.169 mile.
Leased Railway Property
[edit]The entire property is leased to the Baltimore and Ohio for an indefinite term, as stated in the report on that company.
