The railroad of the Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh Railroad Company, herein called the Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, is a partly double-track line extending from Harrisburg to Shippensburg, Pa., a distance of 45.856 miles, including a branch from Shippensburg to Lurgan, Pa., and short branches at Cleversburg and Boiling Springs, Pa.

Construction of the 9 miles of road between Bowmansdale and Harrisburg was begun by The Harrisburg Terminal Railroad Company and was completed and placed in operation by the Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh in 1891.
