CORPORATE HISTORY

The Perkiomen Railroad was incorporated September 9, 1852, by special act of Pennsylvania as the Norristown and Freemansburg Railroad Company. By special act approved April 6, 1854, the name was changed to the Norristown and Allentown Railroad Company and by another special act approved March 23, 1865, the name was finally changed to that now borne by the Perkiomen Railroad.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The property of the Perkiomen Railroad was acquired by construction. Construction of about 9 miles of road between Perkiomen Junction and Grater's Ford was begun in 1867 and was opened for traffic in 1868. The remainder of the line was constructed in sections and opened for traffic on different dates in 1870 and 1875.
