The railroad of the Minarets and Western Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, consists of two separate sections of single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in central California. One section extends from Pinedale to Pinedale Junction, a distance of 4.948 miles, and the other section from Friant to Wishon, a distance of 38.800 miles, aggregating 43.748 miles of main track. The carrier also owns 4.145 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 47.893 miles of all tracks owned and used. The sections are connected for operation by tracks of the Southern Pacific Company between Pinedale Junction and Friant, a distance of 9.24 miles, over which the carrier has trackage rights. The carrier also uses jointly with the owner certain tracks and facilities at Wishon, owned by the Sugar Pine Lumber Company. The carrier grants to the Fresno Traction Company joint use of about 0.28 mile of track at Pinedale. This is an industrial railroad controlled by the Sugar Pine Lumber Company, owners of a large sawmill at Pinedale, Calif., served by the carrier.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated March 19, 1921, under the general laws of California to acquire, by purchase or otherwise, construct, and operate a railroad from a point at or near Friant, Fresno County, in a northeasterly direction to a point at or near North Fork, Madera County, a distance of about 40 miles, all in California. The date of organization was March 23, 1921.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road, all owned, 43.748 miles, consisting of two sections, one extending from Pinedale to Pinedale Junction, Calif., 4.948 miles, the other from Frlant to Wishon, Calif., 38.800 miles, was constructed in part by nonaffiliated contractors and in part by company forces, between March 1921 and July 6, 1923. Operation of the road in interstate commerce was authorized by us October 31, 1924.
