[edit]The railroad of the Millers Creek Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in eastern Kentucky. The main line extends easterly from Van Lear Junction to Mine No. 155 of The Consolidation Coal Company, 4.352 miles. The carrier also owns 1.118 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 5.470 miles of all tracks owned and used.
Introductory
[edit]The carrier is a corporation of the State of Kentucky, having its principal office at Ashland, Ky. The records reviewed do not indicate whether it is controlled by any individual or corporation on date of valuation. On the other hand, the records reviewed do not indicate the carrier controls any common carrier corporation. The property of the carrier has been operated by its own organization during its entire life.
Corporate History
[edit]The carrier was incorporated May 28, 1909, under the general laws of the State of Kentucky, for the purpose of constructing and operating a standard-gauge railroad from a point on the Big Sandy Division of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company's line in Johnson County, Ky., to a point near the head of Millers Creek, about 5 miles. The date of organization was May 29, 1909.
