The railroad of the Middleburgh & Schoharie Rail Road, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in eastern New York. The main line extends southerly from Schoharie to Middleburgh, a distance of 5.266 miles. The carrier also owns 0.549 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 5.815 miles of all tracks owned and used. The carrier is controlled by the town of Middleburgh, N. Y.

Under the terms of a traffic agreement between the carrier and the Schoharie Valley Railway Company, a connecting line, the equipment of both companies is used alternately in the movement of trains over both roads by a single train crew. The carrier grants to the Schoharie Valley Railway Company the joint use of its roundhouse at Middleburgh.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated March 29, 1867, under general laws of New York for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and operating a railroad from some point in the village of Middleburgh to some point in the village of Schoharie, all in the county of Schoharie. The date of organization has not been ascertained.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The railroad of the carrier was acquired by construction in 1867 and 1868 and opened for operation October 19, 1868. It was constructed under contract with G. A. Norton. The records reviewed do not indicate that contractor was affiliated in any manner with carrier.
