Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on February 3, 1900, under the general laws of Virginia, and is a reorganization of Marion and Rye Valley Railroad Company. The Marion and Rye Valley Railroad Company was incorporated on December 17, 1891, by special act of Virginia. Its property was sold under foreclosure proceedings on February 3, 1900, and was conveyed by the purchasers to the carrier on May 10, 1900. No records of the Marion and Rye Valley Railroad Company were available, and no further information relative to the affairs of this company has been obtained. The carrier is controlled by the United States Spruce Lumber Company, through ownership of practically all of its capital stock.
