The railroad of Laona and Northern Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, extending in a northerly direction from Laona to Laona Junction, Wis., a distance of 7.627 miles, with a branch line extending from 1 mile west of Laona to end of track, a distance of 8.902 miles. The carrier wholly owns and uses 19.603 miles of all tracks, which are classified in the trackage statement in Appendix 1.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated June 5, 1902, under the general laws of the State of Wisconsin. The purpose for which it was incorporated was to construct and operate a railroad from the forests to a connection with the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railway Company at or near Laona Junction, Wis. The carrier was promoted by individuals connected with the R. Connor Company. The date of organization was June 5, 1902.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road owned and operated by the carrier on date of valuation had been acquired by it through construction and consisted of a line from Laona to Laona Junction, Wis., a distance of about 17 miles. The construction was commenced in 1902, about 8 miles being constructed in that year, and the remaining 9 miles from 1906 to 1911.
