The railroad of the Kentucky, Rockcastle and Cumberland Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in the central part of eastern Kentucky. The main line extends southwesterly from Caryton to the mines of the Banford Block Coal Company, about 3 miles north of Wild Dog, a distance of 7.060 miles. The carrier also owns 0.870 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 7.930 miles of all tracks owned and used.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated December 3, 1913, under general laws of Kentucky, for the purpose of constructing, acquiring, and operating a railroad, extending from a point of connection with tracks of the Louisville and Atlantic Railway at or near the mouth of Sturgeon Creek, in Lee County, in a southwesterly direction up the valley of Sturgeon Creek to the mouth of Wild Dog Creek and beyond through Lee, Owsley, and Jackson Counties, all in Kentucky.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

In July 1914 the carrier acquired by purchase from the Turkey Foot Lumber Company certain equipment and about 6.50 miles of completed railroad extending from Caryton, Ky., southwesterly, that had been constructed by that company in 1913 and 1914. The purchase included certain right of way on which the carrier completed construction of the road to Wild Dog and to Turkey Foot, Ky., making in all about 17 miles of main line. May 15, 1923, the carrier sold the road extending from Wild Dog to Turkey Foot, about 7 miles, to the Turkey Foot Lumber Company and subsequently abandoned about 3 miles of road extending northwardly from Wild Dog, leaving 7.060 miles, extending from Caryton to a point near Wild Dog, owned on. date of valuation. No application has been made to this Commission for authority to sell or abandon the 10 miles of road above referred to.
