The Kelly's Creek Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, owns no physical property other than certain shop machinery and one steam locomotive. It operates under lease from the Kanawha and Hocking Coal and Coke Company certain railroad property owned by the Kelly's Creek Improvement Company, consisting of a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located in West Virginia. The main line extends northeasterly from Cedar Grove to Mammoth, a distance of 6.314 miles, and the yard tracks and sidings aggregate 2.375 miles. The road thus embraces 8.689 miles of all tracks used but not owned by the carrier. The carrier is an industrial railroad. Practically all of its traffic consists of coal received from the Kanawha and Hocking Coal and Coke Company which controls the railroad company.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated October 20, 1916, under the general laws of the State of West Virginia, for the purpose of constructing, or acquiring and operating, a railroad from Cedar Grove to a point about 7 miles up the valley on Kelly's Creek, all in Kanawha County, W. Va. The date of organization of the carrier was November 10, 1916.
