The Hartford Eastern Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, has never owned a line of railroad. It solely operates under lease from the Northern Pacific Railway Company, a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in the northwestern part of Washington. The leased mileage extends in a southeasterly direction from Hartford to Monte Christo, Wash., a distance of 41.809 miles. The carrier also leases 2.812 miles of yard and side tracks. Its road thus embraces 44.621 miles of all tracks leased. In Appendix 1 will be found a general description of the property.

Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on May 14, 1915, for a period of 50 years, under the general laws of the State of Washington. The purposes for which the carrier was incorporated were to buy, construct, and operate railroads and do a general transportation business. The date of organization was May 26, 1915. The carrier did no development work, the property in its entirety being leased from the Northern Pacific Railway Company. The principal office of the carrier is at Everett, Wash.
