The railroad of the Hannibal Connecting Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located in Missouri, The owned mileage consists of 7.672 miles of yard tracks and sidings, which extend from a point near Hannibal to the works of the Atlas Portland Cement Company near Ilasco. The carrier is an industrial switching railroad operated for freight service only. It reports that for the year 1918 it handled 29,028 cars in revenue service, most of which were handled in connection with service rendered the Atlas Portland Cement Company, the controlling interest.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated July 5, 1902, under the general laws of the Stale of Missouri, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Ilasco Landing to Hannibal, Mo., a distance of about 8 miles. It was organized July 5, 1902.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, consisting of 7.672 miles of single-track standard-gauge switching tracks, was all constructed for it by the Atlas Portland Cement Company. During the year 1902-3 that company constructed for the carrier about 11.859 miles of track, which was opened for operation sometime during the year 1903. On June 1, 1916, about 4.187 miles of this track was purchased by the Atlas Portland Cement Company, so that on the date of valuation the carrier owned 7.672 miles of switching track extending from a connection with the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company near Hannibal to the works of the Atlas Portland Cement Company, near Ilasco, all in the State of Missouri. The railroad of the carrier is constructed on lands leased from Atlas Portland Cement Company.
