The railroad of the Gould Southwestern Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in the southeastern part of Arkansas. The owned mileage extends from Gould in a southwesterly direction to Star City, a distance of 17.834 miles. The carrier also owns and uses 1.432 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 19.266 miles of all tracks owned.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated November 24, 1906, under the general laws of the State of Arkansas for a period of 50 years for the purpose of constructing a railroad from Parma (now Gould), a station upon the line of the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railway, in a southwesterly direction to Avery and thence to Star City, and in a northeasterly direction from said Parma to a point on the Arkansas River, at or near South Bend, Ark. The date of its organization was November 24, 1906.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, extending from Gould to Star City, Ark., a distance of 17.834 miles, was all acquired by construction and was completed and placed in operation during 1907. The records reviewed do not indicate whether this property was constructed under contract or by company forces.
