The railroad of the Fore River Railroad Corporation, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam-operated, switching and terminal railroad, located in Massachusetts, and extending from Quincy Point and Fore River to East Braintree, a distance of 2.356 miles. The carrier also owns 6.806 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 9.162 miles of all tracks owned and used. In addition to the foregoing, the carrier leases certain facilities as described in appendix 2, under the caption Leased Railway Property. It is controlled by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and serves the plant of the Bethelehem Shipbuilding Corporation, Limited.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated January 6, 1919, under general laws of Massachusetts, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from a point of connection with the tracks of The New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad Company to a connection with the private railroad owned by the Fore River Shipbuilding Corporation at Quincy, Mass., a distance of about 1.75 miles. The date of organization was February 24, 1919.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

Of the road owned on date of valuation, the carrier acquired about 2.25 miles, extending from Quincy Point to Fore River, Mass., from the Fore River Shipbuilding Corporation through deed dated April 30, 1919. This property had been constructed by the latter about 1902. It acquired about 0.12 mile, from Fore River to East Braintree, Mass., by construction during 1920. The recorded main-track mileage is 2.37; the inventoried mileage 2.356.
