Location and general description of property.—The railroad of The Euclid Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in Euclid, Ohio, near the city limits of Cleveland, Ohio. The main track extends from the foreign-line connection to the stone quarries of The Cleveland Stone Company, a distance of 1.451 miles. The carrier also owns 0.512 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its wholly owned road thus embraces 1.963 miles of all tracks. The carrier also owns the graded right of way, and The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Company owns the ties, rails, and other track material for 0.670 mile of additional main track at Euclid. This track is used jointly by the two owning companies. The carrier is an industrial switching railroad, serving principally The Cleveland Stone Company, which controls the railroad.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated October 11, 1883, under the general laws of the State of Ohio, for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and operating a railroad from a point about 1 mile west of Euclid Creek to the south line of Euclid Township, Ohio. The date of organization of the carrier has not been ascertainable from the records reviewed.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, 1.451 miles, was all acquired by construction during 1883-1884. The construction work was performed partly by the forces of Malone and Company, stone quarry operators, and partly by the forces of The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railway Company, predecessors of The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Company.
