[edit]The railroad of the Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western Railroad Company, herein called the Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western, is a single-track line located entirely within the State of Michigan, extending from North Escanaba to Antoine, 54.032 miles.
The property of the Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western has always been operated as second main track by the North Western.
Introductory
[edit]The Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western is a corporation of the State of Michigan, having its principal office at Escanaba, Mich., and its general administrative office at Chicago, Ill. While the accounting records of the Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western were obtained, they contain incomplete data and information for the period from date of incorporation to January 21, 1891, with no entries recorded after May, 1893. Therefore, only partial information can be given from its accounts regarding its financial dealings, corporate operations, or investments. The Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western is controlled by the North Western, through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records reviewed do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of the Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western has always been operated as second main track by the North Western.
Corporate History
[edit]The Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western was incorporated January 24, 1890, under the general laws of the State of Michigan to construct a railroad in Delta, Menominee, and Iron Counties, Mich., and Florence County, Wis. The date of organization was August 29, 1890.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
[edit]The entire 54.032 miles owned by the Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western was constructed by the Michigan Construction Company, an affiliated company, during the period 1890-1891.
Leased Railway Property
[edit]The entire property of the Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Western is leased to the North Western for a term of 30 years from May 15, 1891. The terms of the agreement and the rental for the year ending on date of valuation are given in the chapter on leased railway property in the report on the North Western.
