The railroad of Elkin & Alleghany Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located in the northwestern part of North Carolina. The owned mileage extends northwesterly from Elkton to Veneer, N. C., a distance of 15.019 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 1.352 miles. Its road thus embraces 16,371[sic] miles of all tracks owned. In Appendix 1 will be found a general description of the property of the carrier.
Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated February 23, 1907, under a special act of the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Elkin to Sparta, N. C., approximately 37 miles. The organization of the carrier was perfected April 18, 1907. Its principal office is located at Elkin. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.
