The railroad of the Edgemoor and Manetta Railway, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in northern South Carolina. The line extends from Edgemoor to Lando, S. C., a distance of 1.951 miles. The carrier also owns 0.351 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 2.302 miles of all tracks owned. A portion of the rails and fastenings in the track is leased from the Seaboard Air Line Railway Company. The carrier is an industrial railroad. The principal industry served is the Manetta Cotton Mill at Lando, which furnishes most of the traffic. The railway and the cotton mill are controlled by the same interests.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated March 24, 1902, under the general laws of the State of South Carolina, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Lando to Edgemoor, S. C. The date of organization of the carrier has not been ascertainable from the records reviewed.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, extending from Lando to Edgemoor, S. C., a distance of 1.951 miles, was acquired by construction and was put in operation in January, 1903. It is not known whether the construction work was performed by the company's forces or by contract. A portion of the rails and fastenings in the line is leased from the Seaboard Air Line Railway Company.
