The railroad of Eastern Kentucky Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located entirely in the State of Kentucky. The main line extends in a southerly direction from Riverton to Webbville, a distance of 36.094 miles. The carrier also owns and uses 5.204 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 41.298 miles of all tracks owned.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated January 18, 1870, by special act of the Legislature of the State of Kentucky, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from a point in Greenup County, Ky., to West Liberty in Morgan County, Ky. The date of organization of the carrier was not determined. By subsequent amendments to its charter, the carrier was authorized to extend its railroad to Saylersville and Jackson, Ky. The carrier acquired by deed, dated February 28, 1870, all of the property owned by the Kentucky Improvement Company, which consisted of a railroad extending from Riverton to Hunnewell, Ky., approximately 13 miles.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, 36.094 miles, was acquired partly by purchase and partly by construction. The years when the various portions of the line were purchased or constructed are indicated in the following statement:
