Durham Union Station Company, hereinafter called the carrier, owns and operates a union passenger station at Durham, N. C. The railroad property consists of 0.162 mile of main track, a brick passenger station with train sheds, and other necessary station facilities. The grading is very light and the track is laid with 60-pound re-lay rail.

Jointly used property.—All of the property owned by the carrier on date of valuation was used by the following companies: Southern Railway Company, Seaboard Air Line Railway Company, Norfolk and Western Railway Company, and Durham and Southern Railway Company. These companies paid the net expense of operation, which was divided among them on a user basis. These carriers are hereinafter referred to collectively as the controlling companies.

Corporate history and development of fixed physical property.—The carrier was incorporated March 28, 1904, under the general laws of North Carolina through filing with the Secretary of State of North Carolina articles of incorporation. Its organization was completed on May 21, 1904. Its principal office is located in Washington, D. C. Construction of the property was commenced in May, 1904, under contract with the firm of John P. Pettyjohn & Company, which company had no affiliation with the carrier or its officials. The station facilities and the 0.162 mile of track were placed in service on May 1, 1905.
