CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated June 24, 1916, under laws of Washington for the purpose of purchasing or constructing and operating a railroad extending from Chehalis, Wash., to some point in the eastern portion of Lewis County, Wash., or beyond the Cowlitz River in Oregon. Also to construct, acquire, and operate telephone and telegraph lines, water-power sites, and to deal in securities of other corporations. June 26, 1916, the carrier acquired by purchase property of the Washington Electric Railway Company consisting of a line of railroad extending from Chehalis eastward 10.08 miles. Of the road purchased, the Washington Electric Railway Company had acquired about 4 miles from the Chehalis and Cowlitz Railway about 1911 and had constructed about 6 miles.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

Of the 32.294 miles of road owned by the carrier, 10.08 miles, extending from Chehalis eastward, were acquired by purchase June 26, 1916, from the Washington Electric Railway Company. Definite dates of construction of the 10.08 miles of purchased road were not ascertainable from records obtained, however, about 4 miles were constructed by the Chehalis and Cowlitz Railway Company and about 6 miles by the Washington Electric Railway Company.

The carrier extended the road eastward 8.32 miles, to Lacamas, Wash., during 1916, 1917, and 1918, and 13.894 miles, to Cowlitz, Wash., in 1926 and 1927. The latter extension of 13.894 miles was completed and placed in operation January 1, 1928, 94 I.C.C. 811.
