The railroad of the Carolina & Yadkin River Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located entirely within the State of North Carolina, extending from High Point in a southwesterly direction to High Rock, a distance of 34.281 miles. The carrier has 8.345 miles of yard tracks and sidings, making a total of 42.626 miles of all tracks.

Corporate history.—The present carrier corporation is the successor, under an earlier name, of the Carolina Valley Railway Company, which itself had borne three different names. The Carolina Valley Railway Company was incorporated under special act of the North Carolina Legislature February 19, 1903, as the North Carolina Mining, Manufacturing & Development Company. Its name was changed, March 2, 1905, to Carolina, Glenanna,[sic] and Pee Dee Railway & Development Company, and again changed, March 5, 1907, to Carolina Valley Railway Company. On June 17, 1908, the Carolina Valley Railway Company went into receivership. Its line, about 10 miles in length, was sold through M. L. Jones as intermediary to the Piedmont Railway Company, which was incorporated by Jones and associates, February 18, 1909. The name of the Piedmont Railway Company was changed May, 1912, to the present name of the carrier.
