The railroad of the Benwood and Wheeling Connecting Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a standard-gauge steam-operated switching railroad, located at Benwood, W. Va. It consists of 2.374 miles of first main, 0.602 mile of second main, and 0.101 mile of third main tracks, together with 4.329 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 7.406 miles of all tracks wholly owned and used. A portion of the tracks owned by this company is located upon land leased from The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company. The carrier is an industrial carrier. It is controlled by the National Tube Company, and its principal business is switching between that company's steel plant and connecting railroads.

The carrier was incorporated January 30, 1900, under the general laws of the State of West Virginia for the stated purpose of constructing a railroad extending from Benwood to Wheeling, W. Va. The date of organization of the carrier has not been determined.
- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The owned mileage of the carrier was acquired partly by construction and partly by purchase. It owned on date of valuation 2.374 miles of main line and 4.329 miles of yard tracks and sidings, located at or near Benwood, W. Va. Part of this property has been reported as having been constructed by the company from year to year since the date of its incorporation. The remainder was acquired by purchase from the National Tube Company on November 1, 1917. The records reviewed do not indicate whether the property constructed by the carrier was constructed under contract or by the company's own forces.
