The railroad of The Baltimore and Cumberland Valley Rail Road Extension Company, herein called the Baltimore and Cumberland Valley Extension, is a branch line, located in Pennsylvania, extending from Waynesboro to Shippensburg, 26.578 miles, of which 1.947 miles is double tracked. This road forms a continuation of the Western Maryland's branch line between Edgemont, Md., and Waynesboro, Pa.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The Baltimore and Cumberland Valley Extension was incorporated June 25, 1880, under the general laws of Pennsylvania for the purpose of building a railroad "from the terminus of the Baltimore and Cumberland Valley Railroad at or near Waynesboro, in the County of Franklin, to a point on the southeast side of the Cumberland Valley Railroad at Shippensburg, in the County of Cumberland," about 26 miles. The company was organized July 8, 1880.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the Baltimore and Cumberland Valley Extension, amounting to 26.578 miles, was acquired by construction. Work was begun in 1880 and the road was completed October 24, 1881.
