The railroad of the Atlantic Northern Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad extending northwardly from Atlantic to Kimballton, Iowa, a distance of 17.070 miles. The carrier also owns and uses 18.749 miles of all tracks, which are classified in the trackage table in Appendix 1.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated August 13, 1913, under the general incorporation laws of the State of Iowa, for the purpose of owning and operating a steam railway within the State of Iowa of within adjoining States. The carrier was incorporated and organized by certain bondholders of the Atlantic Northern & Southern Railway Company, a company incorporated on December 26, 1906, under the general laws of the State of Iowa. A part of the latter company's road was acquired by the carrier at foreclosure sale.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, amounting to 17.07 miles, was all acquired by purchase on October 8, 1913, from the receiver of the Atlantic Northern & Southern Railway Company, by which company it had been constructed during 1907.
