South Africa Telecommunication Stub

{{SouthAfrica-telecom-stub}} needs a stub due to a number of new articles related to South African Telecommunications Companies. So far there is at least 40 articles TapticInfo (talk) 17:15, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
- To apply to telecom companies in South Africa, the template should be {{SouthAfrica-telecom-company-stub}}. Support upmerged template, category to come once it's used on 60+ articles. Her Pegship (?) 17:07, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- Comment - There is about more than 60 stubs related currently. Do I just add the template to the articles? TapticInfo (talk) 18:58, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- Not just yet - I'll create it later today. Her Pegship (?) 16:21, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

{{Hibisceae-stub}} has reached 69 transclusions. — CVValue (talk) 00:57, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support creation of Category:Hibisceae stubs. Her Pegship (?) 17:08, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

As mentioned on the WPSS talk page, we don't have a stub type for observances that are not, strictly speaking, holidays or festivals. I propose {{observance-stub}} for articles such as International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day and the like, to upmerge to Category:Culture stubs until critical mass is reached. Her Pegship (?) 18:09, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support - seems a good idea. Ingratis (talk) 23:06, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
French novelist stubs & French non-fiction writer stubs

Category:French writer stubs contains 953 items. Just in those starting A-C I count 97 novelists and 79 non-fiction writers, so there will be many more in the whole category. I propose Category:French novelist stubs / {{France-novelist-stub}} and Category:French non-fiction writer stubs / {{France-nonfiction-writer-stub}}. Ingratis (talk) 14:43, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm for it. Her Pegship (?) 17:28, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Looking at it more closely, given the quantities, France-novelists will certainly total 500+ and need to be subdivided further, so I can go straight to {{France-novelist-19thC-stub}} / Category:French novelist, 19th-century birth stubs and {{France-novelist-20thC-stub}} / Category:French novelist, 20th-century birth stubs (on the pattern of US novelist stubs)? Ingratis (talk) 12:40, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- Still for it. Her Pegship (?) 17:17, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- Working towards it! Ingratis (talk) 09:59, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Proposal new Category:Stub-Class tennis articles by year
- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed creation of the stub template and/or category above. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the template's or category's talk page (if any). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the debate was not WPSS business.
With over 25,000 Tennis stubs, they are unmanageable if not by year (or at least decade). I just cannot see how to change the main template:Template:WikiProject_Tennis to somehow sub-categorize "Stub" to "Stub by Year"? Mjquinn_id (talk) 18:27, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Mjquinn id: Amending a WikiProject banner template, such as
{{WikiProject Tennis}}
, is not a WP:WSS/P matter. It appears though, that you may be confused about the distinction between stub categories (which contain articles that bear a stub tag) and the categories used for content assessment (which contain talk pages bearing a WikiProject template). --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:26, 1 July 2021 (UTC)- Well, the WP Banner, provides the assessment (Quality), which somewhere in the template create the category "Tennis-Stub" which I want to try and change to "Tennis-Stub-YYYY" or something similar (with this groups approval? Given the vast majority of articles begin with "YYYY", I was hoping to use it to "sub-categorize" the stubs... or shall I "Be Bold"? Mjquinn_id (talk) 19:02, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Mjquinn id:You wrote: "the WP Banner provides the assessment (Quality), which somewhere in the template create the category "Tennis-Stub" - Actually, the {{tennis-stub}} template places an article in Category:Tennis stubs. If your project wants to create sub-categories under your own project's assessment categories (such as Category:Stub-Class tennis articles), that should be done by the Tennis WP, without altering the {{tennis-stub}} or its sub-stub templates used in the article space. tl;dr Please do not alter the {{tennis-stub}} template, per Stub types, WikiProjects, and assessment templates and Wikipedia:Content assessment. Her Pegship (?) 21:06, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) No, when you use
{{WikiProject Tennis|class=stub}}
on a talk page (not an article), that talk page is placed in Category:Stub-Class tennis articles, which has no sub-categories and is not intended to have any at all. This category is generated by subtemplates of{{WPBannerMeta}}
from three components: (i) the value of the|class=stub
parameter as used on the talk page; (ii) a hyphen and the word "Class"; (iii) the value of the|ASSESSMENT_CAT=tennis articles
parameter, as used within the code of{{WikiProject Tennis}}
itself. There is no provision in{{WPBannerMeta}}
for further subcategorisation. All of this is outside the remit of WP:WSS. - By contrast, when you use
{{Tennis-bio-stub}}
on an article (not a talk page), that article is placed in Category:Tennis biography stubs which has several subcategories, and may warrant more at some point. At present, all the subcategories relate to a geographic area; but we might decide that subdivision by decade (or even by year) of birth may be justifiable, as has been done with e.g. Category:American baseball pitcher stubs. Such a decision is well within the scope of this page. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:10, 2 July 2021 (UTC)- Ah, many, many thanks RedRose64. But if that is outside of your remit; then within Whose is it?
That is where I am heading; Trying to get {{WikiProject Tennis}} (via WPBannerMeta)... to force the {{Tennis-competition-stub}} Style of sub-category... Maybe with an extra parameter |comp=yes or |bio=yes? or maybe |subcat={bio|comp}? We need to at least break Category:Stub-Class tennis articles up by decade?...(again, 25K, with about 50% being year based competitions). Where Category:Tennis competition stubs only has around 350P.
The problem is getting the masses to tag BOTH the Page AND the TalkPage. Which seems to be a bit much. Worse, when the banner is updated, but the Page is not... I am picturing: Category:Stub-Class tennis 1970 articles, where the FIRST word, then "tennis"/ProjectName then "YYYY" is checked|modified|replaced whenever the banner is updated?
OR, can we not "jump" spaces like that? Talk to Category? Mjquinn_id (talk) 00:06, 4 July 2021 (UTC)- Did you miss something? You are attempting to mix up two different, separate, independent processes. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:25, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
- Ultimately, the articles assessed by a WP, and the talk page tagging thereof, are handled by the project itself. You should post a comment to your project's discussion page asking for advice on this, as it has nothing to do with the Stub sorting Project. More experienced heads may have just the right solution for your dilemma. Good luck. Her Pegship (?) 18:26, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
