I got round to creating {{Czechoslovakia-stub}} (approved in March 2009) and have found 100 articles so far so I propose Category:Czechoslovakia stubs (parent: Category:European history stubs). Of the 102 articles, 72 are about sport and 69 of them are about football competitions so it's worth making a {{Czechoslovakia-footy-competition-stub}} but as a separate category would make the parent undersized, leave it upmerged for now. Both are speediable. SeveroTC 11:41, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Category:Trail stubs is hardly in need of splitting, but about half - maybe more - of the stubs in this category could easily be farmed out into a Category:United States trail stubs by way of a new {{US-trail-stub}}. The result of the debate was create as Deafness stubs.
Request. My sincerest apology for the premature stub creation (just read the box saying to come here firstly). This stub will cover 125 articles in Category:Sign languages, 47 articles in Category:Deaf culture, 15 articles in Category:Education for the deaf, 8 articles in Category:Deaf education or 7,189 articles having the word 'deaf'. - S1 --Egberts (talk) 19:27, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- This isn't an S1 - there's no evidence whatsoever that there are 60 stubs, even though there are more than 60 articles (or in this case, given that there's a WikiProject, 30 stubs). Those containing the word "deaf" may have nothing to do with deafness, or be only tangentially connected. New York City Opera's performance of "Tale for a Deaf Ear" doesn't mean that it needs a {{Deaf-stub}}, for instance, and around 1,000 of those articles seem to simply use the phrase "to fall on deaf ears" or some variety of it. If you can show that there are definitely enough stubs (which should be easy to do given that the template exists), then you'll have a case for the category.
- Even if it was S1, S1 categories should still be proposed so that the naming can be checked. Especially in this case since the parent category is Category:Deafness — this should be moved to Category:Deafness stubs if it is needed, especially since the stubs themselves aren't deaf! The category also needs tidying up, since it clearly isn't likely to be a top-level category — it should be placed within the stub tree. Grutness...wha? 22:21, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- Having looked into it, I think this will not only pass 60 but I'm pretty sure that a seperate category for sign language may soon be viable (ie is probably viable I just haven't loked that closely). I do agree that this shouldn't be a top level category so may be Category:Disability stubs would be the best place to put it. and finally yes Category:Deafness stubs rather than Category:Deaf stubs would make alot more sense. Waacstats (talk) 13:07, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- A separate {{Deaf-school-stub}} might also be useful. I've proposed the category for renaming at WP:SFD. Grutness...wha? 23:49, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Proposing a parent-only category, with several other parent-only subcategories. Specifically, the subcategories would be of the pattern Category:9999s film stubs.
For example, Category:2000s film stubs would not have a template of its own but would be a parent for:
- Category:2000s comedy film stubs
- Category:2000s drama film stubs
- Category:2000s horror film stubs
- etc...
Category:2010s film stubs would not house any categories at this time, but would be a second parent for:
- {{2010s-Argentina-film-stub}} (5 P)
- {{2010s-comedy-film-stub}} (20 P)
- {{2010s-drama-film-stub}} (38 P)
- {{2010s-France-film-stub}} (11 P)
- {{2010s-Germany-film-stub}} (12 P)
- {{2010s-Hindi-film-stub}} (3 P)
- {{2010s-horror-film-stub}} (15 P)
- {{2010s-Italy-film-stub}} (8 P)
- {{2010s-Japan-film-stub}} (10 P)
- {{2010s-Mexico-film-stub}} (1 P)
- {{2010s-UK-film-stub}} (23 P)
I'm asking for permission to build this for as many decades as can support such groupings. Having the general Film stubs by decade parent will provide a home for decades that don't quite support a full category (1890s, for example). Dawynn (talk) 14:34, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

I had a second thought on this. Should there be templates for the individual decades? (So, a {{2010s-film-stub}}, for example) This would allow sorting where we know the year the film was released, but the genre is up for discussion. Dawynn (talk) 15:05, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

This category is pretty big and and I think undersorted. Most of the target articles have also missed much of my recent European sports sorting because they are too far down the Sport in Foo tree. For now, propose the following templates (upmerged also to Fooian sport stubs) which I am sure will get into double figures. I will come back after sorting with categories so we will have a better idea on them.

then in bobsleigh

Finally speed skating

As we will shortly have Europe, North America and Central America fully covered I think it is time to start working on finishing off South America so I ask for the following
- Category:Bolivian sport stubs - {{Bolivia-sport-stub}} +various existing categories and templates
- Category:Ecuadorian sport stubs - {{Ecuador-sport-stub}} +various existing categories and templates

This stub category needs major restructuring. The parent is currently at 1,300 stubs. It's subdivided into 6 province level categories. Problem is, over the last 3 years Madagascar has restructured its subdivisions. Provinces were abolished in favor of 22 regions, which are now the highest level subdivision. See Regions of Madagascar, Provinces of Madagascar. I propose creating 22 region level stub templates, retagging, and seeing after a sort which (if any) merit their own Category:Foo Region geography stubs. I'm not sure how to name the geo-stubs due to long names, names with apostrophes in them, and names that could be confused with other places (like Sofia Region). Suggestions please. Aelfthrytha (talk) 15:38, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hmph. I wish the Government of Madagascar had consulted us first! :) The lengths seem no real problem (certainly far less so than some Madagascan place-names!) As far as disambiguating between these stub types and similarly named places, the ISO two-letter code is used. Apostrophes are generally retained (often a redirect without the apostrophe is also made), but hyphens are removed. So the stub templates would be:
- {{AlaotraMangoro-geo-stub}}
- {{Amoron'iMania-geo-stub}} (redirect at {{AmoroniMania-geo-stub}})
- {{Analamanga-geo-stub}}
- {{Analanjirofo-geo-stub}}

First of all, I must apologize, because I created a stub template before reading this section. So, there we go: I have just created the {{translation-stub}} template. Provisorily I placed it under Category:Linguistics stubs. This new template can include articles nowadays listed as {{ling-stub}} or as {{linguist-stub}}. Opinions...? --Fadesga (talk) 19:15, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- Certainly the template seems like a reasonable subject for a stub type, and Category:Linguistics stubs is getting pretty big, so we'd be looking at further splits of it soon. I'd say this template's a good idea, and
if it reaches 60 stubs then a category would make perfect sense (note that that is an "if").it looks like it has been used on 60 stubs, so support the category, too. One thing though - stub templates shouldn't have navboxes linked as part of them - I've removed that. Grutness...wha? 21:50, 18 March 2011 (UTC) (amended 22:32, 23 March 2011 (UTC))

There are currently 84 stub class articles listed at Category:Stub-Class G.I. Joe articles. There are a variety of stub tags that would fit them, ranging from {{Animation-char-stub}}, to {{Marvel-comics-stub}} and {{Toy-stub}}. I feel that they could all be consolidated under one stub type such as {{G.I.-Joe-stub}} (similar to {{Transformers-stub}}), which would make it easier to identify them as part of {{WikiProject G.I. Joe}}. Fortdj33 (talk) 01:53, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Do we really need a new stub type, if the WikiProject's quality scale already identifies them, especially if most of the people who would be interested in this are already members of (or aware of) the WikiProject? I'm not fussed either way, just askin' -- Jake fuersturm (talk) 02:20, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Most of the articles that fall under the G.I. Joe WikiProject, are also included in projects for animation, comics and toys as well. Consolidating all the stub articles with one stub, would eliminate the need for multiple stub tags on each article, yet it would still include the articles in the appropriate categories, to increase their chances of being expanded. Fortdj33 (talk) 02:41, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Comment - I'm unsure whether we need such a stub or not, especially since stub templates aren't primarily designed to be used to identify specific wikiproject articles (after all, that is what the assessment templates are for). If we do, then it should be at {{GIJoe-stub}} rather than the previous suggested name to keep it in line with normal stub template naming (it's not a subtype of "Joe-stub", which the proposed name would suggest, and we don't use full stops as parts of stub names). Grutness...wha? 08:04, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that {{GIJoe-stub}} is a better name for the stub. But the purpose is not just to identify specific wikiproject articles, the intention is for those stub articles to be expanded, by placing the article into the appropriate maintenance categories (such as Category:Animation stubs, Category:Comics stubs, and Category:Toy stubs). The creation of a G.I. Joe stub would create Category:G.I. Joe stubs as a sub-category of all of those, but with one stub tag on each article, rather than adding multiple stub tags to accomplish the same result. Fortdj33 (talk) 14:26, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't realise that you could link a stub-cat as a sub-category to other stub-cats. So if I understand you properly, someone browsing the list of Comics stubs would then find all of the G.I. Joe stubs in that list as well, is that right? If that's the case, then it makes sense to create a "consolidated" stub like this. My only caveat is, using the same example, are all of the G.I. Joe stubs also Comics stubs (e.g. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra – Score from the Motion Picture probably shouldn't be included as a Comic stub)? -- Jake fuersturm (talk) 15:27, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Just had a quick look at the viability of some central american countries having sport stubs and I believe the following are viable
- Category:Honduran sport stubs - {{Honduras-sport-stub}}, {{Honduras-footyclub-stub}}, {{Honduras-sports-venue-stub}} and Category:Honduran sportspeople stubs
- Category:Guatemalan sport stubs - {{Guatemala-sport-stub}}, {{Guatemala-footyclub-stub}}, {{Guatemala-sports-venue-stub}} and Category:Guatemalan sportspeople stubs
- Category:Belizean sport stubs - {{Belize-sport-stub}}, {{Belize-footyclub-stub}}, {{Belize-sports-venue-stub}} and various sports-bio templates.
- {{CostaRica-sport-stub}}
- {{Nicaragua-sport-stub}}
- {{Panama-sport-stub}}
- {{ElSalvador-sport-stub}}
I don't think the last four have quite enough for a category but obviously if we manage to find 60 then the matching category will be needed. I did think El Salvador had easily passed the mark till I realised that
would take 63 articles on its own. Waacstats (talk) 11:29, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- You lost me there. We have enough articles for a subcategory (Salvadoran football club stubs) but yet don't have enough for a parent category (Category:Salvadoran sport stubs)? How does that work? I support all, including the Salvadoran general category. Dawynn (talk) 15:42, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- We have enough for a footyclub stub which would leave the general sport stub category very low on numbers with if memory serves 20 articles and 2 categories, normally I wouldn't propose a category with 2 potential subcats until it got to 45-50 articles but if people want the sport cat I'll not complain. 62 articles are tagged with {{Olympic-stub}} and {{sport-org-stub}} which are mostly National Olympic Committees so I propose a {{Olympic-org-stub}} with Category:Olympic organization stubs (upon reaching 60 articles). (An alternative would be the slightly narrower {{NOC-stub}}/Category:National Olympic Committee stubs but I don't think it's so good). There's a slight categorisation problem to it though as the natural parent categories would be Category:Olympics stubs and Category:Sport organization stubs but Olympics stubs is a subcategory of Sport organization stubs. SeveroTC 11:26, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- I was think the only organizations that should have the Olympic-stub are the bid committees, local organizing committees and the NOC's. The only organisiations I can see in Olympics stub are NOCs and some National governing bodies which I wouldn't expect to find there. NOw I know that would take it slightly below the 60 mark but if we follow the perm cats and move Paralympics under Olympics then there are a few NPC's (National Paralympic committees) that could also use a Olympic-org-stub. Any way support for a Olympic-org-stub and caegory if/when we reach 60. And finally just to add even more confusion, do we really need to classify Olympics stubs as an organisation anyway, can't we just move it out as technically it is not an organistaion but a series of events, the IOC is an organisation but not the Olympics. Waacstats (talk) 12:41, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- I think it's safe to move Category:Paralympics stubs under Category:Olympics stubs and take them both out of Category:Sport organization stubs. SeveroTC 08:26, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

CatScan showed >200 articles in Category:Research institutes. Category:Scientific organization stubs is currently the best-fitting stub, but it's large (>500) and often times don't include the many research institutes that focus on the social sciences because of the connotation with natural sciences. A research institute stub would be better because editors would feel more inclined to include social science institutes. Second, institute has a different connotation than organization in that institutes tend to be in physical proximity (with the largest known exception being the NIH, but even that has a main campus). -Temporal User (Talk) 05:16, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

As promised earlier a few new templates for the above category, not sure any will require categories just yet but I have included the categories just in case they do
- {{Waterpolo-team-stub}} - Category:Water polo team stubs
- {{Athletics-club-stub}} - Category:Track and field athletics club stubs
- {{Rowing-club-stub}} - Category:Rowing club stubs
I have gone with the parent category name, except for athletics where I have gone with our name as we may need to look at these. also the following may proove useful
- Category:Bandy stubs - {{Bandy-stub}}, {{Bandy-team-stub}} and {{Bandy-bio-stub}}
- Category:Roller hockey stubs - {{Rollerhockey-stub}}, {{Rollerhockey-team-stub}} and {{Rollerhockey-bio-stub}}
The later of those two is assuming we follow the parent cat and include inline hockey and various other forms of hockey. Finally as we already have a norwegian category, the following are all viable
- Category:American sports team stubs - {{US-sport-team-stub}}
- Category:British sports team stubs - {{UK-sport-team-stub}}
- Category:French sports team stubs - {{France-sport-team-stub}}
- Category:Australian sports team stubs - {{Australia-sport-team-stub}}
- Category:Swedish sports team stubs - {{Sweden-sport-team-stub}}
- Category:Spanish sports team stubs - {{Spain-sport-team-stub}}
- Category:Italian sports team stubs - {{Italy-sport-team-stub}}
- Category:Canadian sports team stubs - {{Canada-sport-team-stub}}

Seen as most of my work is done on sports articles I thought I had better jump on the bandwagon,

Also, are you proposing Category:European sport stub (Category:European sport stubs)? I've done some preliminary sorting and Liechtenstein is well over threshold now. After a bit of stub-hunting, I think I've got this concatenated category (ooo... that's fun to say :) to the point where it can be split:
- Category:Skiing stubs would contain 65 stubs and four subcategories;
- Category:Snowboarding stubs would contain 62 stubs and one subcategory.
The current cat would then be redundant and can be deleted. Grutness...wha? 10:59, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
