Even considering that some of the templates have not fully moved to new categories, the European political party stubs is over 800, and I'm not finding any more countries that can support a full category at this time. I'd like to propose a split of Europe, mostly based on the UN geoscheme. Propose the following new parent-only categories:
- Category:Eastern European political party stubs
- Category:Polish political party stubs (63 P)
- Category:Ukrainian political party stubs (90 P)
- {{Belarus-party-stub}} (22 P)
- {{Bulgaria-party-stub}} (48 P)
- {{CzechRepublic-party-stub}} (21 P)
- {{Hungary-party-stub}} (15 P)
- {{Moldova-party-stub}} (28 P)
- {{Romania-party-stub}} (19 P)
- {{Russia-party-stub}} (37 P)
- {{Slovakia-party-stub}} (22 P)
- Category:Northern European political party stubs
- Category:Danish political party stubs (63 P)
- Category:Swedish political party stubs (121 P)
- Category:United Kingdom political party stubs (127 P)
- {{Estonia-party-stub}} (10 P)
- {{Finland-party-stub}} (29 P)
- {{Iceland-party-stub}} (17 P)
- {{Ireland-party-stub}} (8 P)
- {{Latvia-party-stub}} (27 P)
- {{Lithuania-party-stub}} (17 P)
- {{Norway-party-stub}} (28 P)
- Category:Southern European political party stubs
- Category:Italian political party stubs (55 P)

- Support all, but... it's advisable you check the definitions of "Eastern Europe", since the term is regarded as derogatory in some parts of the former Soviet Bloc (the term "Central Europe" is preferred in those parts which weren't in the Soviet Union, IIRC). Today Category:Russia geography stubs splits into 7 subcats, one for each of the Federal Districts of the Russian Federation. In 2010, they divided the Southern Federal District (Category:Southern Russia geography stubs) into two, splitting off the new North Caucasian Federal District. We should create a stub cat for the new District, in order to be consistent, and reorder the tree, regardless of the number of currently existing stubs (there are 252 total in South-Russia today). -- Y not? 17:10, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- That would be {{NorthCaucasus-geo-stub}}, without the hyphen, since it's the name of the new district, rather than a stub for just a subpart of a Caucasian Federal District. I'd certainly support a template, and a category iff it reaches the 60-stub threshold. Grutness...wha? 21:54, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ya, I bet it would, given the 252 in the parent. Do I need to go count? I forgot how things work around here, Grutness - I haven't been around WSS in a couple of years... Even if it doesn't reach sixty, wouldn't it make sense to make a template for consistency anyway? -- Y not? 03:19, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Best thing would probably be to make the template upmerged at first - it'll be easy for anyone using the template to see (with the "what links here") if and when it gets to 60. Since it's been brought up here and general comments seem to be supporting the category if it reaches threshold, it can be speedily made and added to the template once it gets there - by you if you get there during the sorting :) Since a lot of the stubs are already sorted by Oblast for Russia, it should be pretty easy to work out quickly enough if there are enough stubs for a category. Grutness...wha? 10:46, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Support template, no matter the number of articles. Support category if 60+ articles can be found. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:49, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

- If my understanding is correct, the new Region contains the following seven oblasts which we already have geo-stubs for:
- {{NorthOssetiaAlania-geo-stub}} 11
- {{StavropolKrai-geo-stub}} 23
- {{KabardinoBalkaria-geo-stub}} 26
- {{Kalmykia-geo-stub}} 10
- {{Ingushetia-geo-stub}} 6
- {{Dagestan-geo-stub}} 20
- {{Chechnya-geo-stub}} 22
- Which gives 118 and enough for a category already (unless I've missed something?). SeveroTC 11:09, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

- It's been here over a week and there's been no objectionsw so - either you can create it yourself now, or you can wait for someone here to get round to it (which probably won't take too long). Your choice :) Grutness...wha? 08:19, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Propose the next bunch of sport by country templates and categories. All Category:Fooian sport stubs categories and {{foo-sport-stub}} templates are new and all other upmergable templates and categories already exist except where the templates are marked (*). This covers all European countries from Iceland upwards in terms of population.
Categories only when 60 is reached from the upmergable templates. I think that Moldova is the only one a little short but it may just tip 60. SeveroTC 21:10, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- good work there severo, Support all and given that we will have bio categories for all those I think any that do fall a little short would be OK. Waacstats (talk) 21:17, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

- We already have Category:Luxembourgian sport stubs. Templates for the small states are a possibility which I will look at in the days ahead. SeveroTC 08:52, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oh! okaaay- I was going by the footyclub stub, which feeds directly into Category:Luxembourg stubs. I'll change that... Grutness...wha? 11:59, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- A {{Fiji-sport-stub}}/{{Fiji-sports-venue-stub}}/{{Fiji-footyclub-stub}} combination would account for close to 70 articles, enough for a Category:Fijian sport stubs, and it would also have bio subcat. Grutness...wha? 01:11, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- I will add it to the list. I haven't had a close look at - well - anywhere outside of Europe yet, just done a few of the more obvious candidates. SeveroTC 19:06, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Firstly, Category:Asian ice hockey biography stubs should be viable, fed by the existing {{Japan-icehockey-bio-stub}}, {{SouthKorea-icehockey-bio-stub}} and three new templates {{Asia-icehockey-bio-stub}}, {{kazakhstan-icehockey-bio-stub}} and {{PRChina-icehockey-bio-stub}}.
Secondly the following categories should be viable
- Category:Swiss ice hockey biography stubs - {{Switzerland-icehockey-bio-stub}}
- Category:Norwegian ice hockey biography stubs - {{Norwegian-icehockey-bio-stub}}
and finally in tidying up the european cat I may want a few templates such as {{Austria-icehockey-bio-stub}}, {{Italy-icehockey-bio-stub}} and maybe others. Hope that is not to difficult to follow. Waacstats (talk) 00:06, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

The result of the debate was create as law-bio-stub.
Could use some pruning - though not oversized, it contains 504 stubs on its own. Might I suggest Category:European jurist stubs as a subcat? It would be populated by either {{Euro-jurist-stub}} or individual country templates. I'm in favor of the latter, but would consider the former as well. Thoughts? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:19, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- Support principal, but are not existing templates for European countries at {{Foo-law-bio-stub}} in which case I would think we are better off sticking to using -law-bio-stub instead of -jursit-stub. Also I would suggest using national templates for ost nations with a {{Europe-law-bio-stub}} to mop up the countries with only a couple of articles. Waacstats (talk) 23:59, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- Again it';s worth pointing out that the term jurist has different meanings on the two sides of the Atlantic, too, which may add to the confusion. Grutness...wha? 00:14, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

As per the referendum of last month, Southern Sudan is going to become independent (as South Sudan) in July of this year. Is it too early to discuss creating stub tags for the new country? I don't see that we have any as yet. I think we'll need:
I can't imagine that there will be any others yet. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:46, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- Discussion's already started here. It's also mentioned on the Discoveries page due to the discovery of {{SouthernSudan-stub}}. I think it is still too soon to make them, since the name of the new country's still not been formalised AFAIK, but once it is it'll be a good idea to start, and those four make perfect sense. Grutness...wha? 21:33, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

- Well, if that's the official one, it'd be the one to use (just a case of finding confirmation, I guess...) Grutness...wha? 23:33, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

- I have no problem with the idea here but our articles seem to use Southern Sudan at the moment so that would be where I would suggest calling the templates, better yet I think would be to hold off completley till we have a confirmed name. Waacstats (talk) 23:53, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

The result of the debate was Create Cyprus tag, do not create tags for disputed nations.
Found a few articles for Cyprus, currently tagged with {{Europe-party-stub}}:
- {{Cyprus-party-stub}} (Planning to tag the Northern Cyprus parties with the same tag. Is that OK?)
And a couple controversial ones. Should I create these, or just tag with the optional tag indicated?
- {{Transinistra-party-stub}}. See Transinistra. Optional: continue to tag with {{Moldova-party-stub}}
- {{Abkhazia-party-stub}}. See Abkhazia. Optional: tag with {{Georgia-party-stub}}
Dawynn (talk) 14:04, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- Support the first. Regarding the latter two: as I recall, it's not practice to create stubs for such subnational entities that have very little, if any, international recognition. Am I correct, or do my wits woolgather? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:56, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

As per the discussion below:
By constituent country (each to include relevant football club and sportspeople stub categories)
- Category:British sport stubs & {{UK-sport-stub}} (to include Category:British sportspeople stubs, Category:English sport stubs, Category:Scottish sport stubs and Category:United Kingdom football club stubs)
- Category:Welsh sport stubs & {{Wales-sport-stub}} ~120 (including upmerged venues - see below; also to house Category:Welsh rugby union team stubs)
- Category:Northern Ireland sport stubs & {{NorthernIreland-sport-stub}} ~50 (including upmerged venues - see below)
Sports venues with approximate numbers - categories if 60 threshold reached.
- Category:English sports venue stubs ~286 – {{England-sports-venue-stub}} or templates on a regional level
- Category:Scottish sports venue stubs ~70 – {{Scotland-sports-venue-stub}}
- Category:Welsh sports venue stubs ~43 – {{Wales-sports-venue-stub}}
- Category:Northern Ireland sports venue stubs ~30 – {{NorthernIreland-sports-venue-stub}}
I'm not entirely sure how to sort English sports venue stubs - I was thinking to create templates for each region but many of the regions already have subcategories on the county level - but creating county level sports venue templates seems a bit extreme. SeveroTC 12:51, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I submitted two templates at WP:AFC yesterday, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Template:Old West-book-stub and Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Template:Old West-geo-stub, but was told to submit them here. I think they qualify under the second clause for "speedy creation" as a sub-category of Category:United States history stubs (see {{US-hist-book-stub}}). The vast majority of articles in Category:American Old West stubs are currently either books or historical locations. 72.74.206.120 (talk) 10:50, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

- I agree. Certainly geo-stubs only use current locations, so they should be in whichever state or subdivision of state that is appropriate, with any "Old West-stub" (how did it slip through with a non-standard name?) as a secondary stub type. In any case "the vast majority" is of a very small category. Soince the standard size of thinking about splitting a category into subtypes is around 800 stubs, there's no point whatsoever at present of even considering other templates - and when we do, they should be at names in line with the naming conventions for stub templates. This may be a two-stage process including "superspeedying" at the first stage... Category:Sri Lanka geography stubs is waaay oversized (2200 stubs)... but that's because several of the provinces do not yet have their own subcategories. I propose:
- Category:North Western Province, Sri Lanka geography stubs (75 stubs)
- Category:Eastern Province, Sri Lanka geography stubs (75 stubs), and (wait for it...)
- Category:Central Province, Sri Lanka geography stubs (1700 stubs!)
The second stage, then, obviously, would be to find subcategories for Central Province. It's divided into three districts, which are each divided into an average of a dozen divisional secretariats. It seems very likely that the three districts at least should each have their own template (and probably category. That would mean creating:
- {{KandyDistrict-geo-stub}} / Category:Kandy District geography stubs*
- {{MataleDistrict-geo-stub}} / Category:Matale District geography stubs*
- {{NuwaraEliyaDistrict-geo-stub}} / Category:Nuwara Eliya District geography stubs*

Propose the following templates/categories:
Some of the categories are a little small but they have the sub-cats to bulk the numbers. I would appreciate if someone could have a second check to see if I missed any obvious sub-cats/existing upmergeable templates.
The following are also now viable for de-upmerging.
SeveroTC 12:49, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- Someones beaten me to my next big area to look at! I may be wrong as I haven't checked all the numbers but I think the upmerged templates can probably be turned into full categories once you add in those in the foo-sport-venue-stub template and the fooian sportspeople stubs categories. Iwouls say support all of the above and the extra categories following the pattern if they reach desired levels. Waacstats (talk) 16:09, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Upmerge template for Category:Software stubs. - Needs clarification. I'm a computer programmer, and I'm even having trouble working out the fine line between {{software-dev-stub}}, {{compu-prog-stub}}, and {{software-eng-stub}}. OK, maybe software engineering is more of the higher-level concepts. But where do we draw a line between computer programming and software development? Please define how this new template would be used, and how its use would be distinctly different than {{compu-prog-stub}}. Dawynn (talk) 15:22, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

- Software engineering — architecting, designing, implementing, testing, and modifying software

- In some individual cases the distinction may fall apart. Articles can go in more than one if it's really necessary. When specific subcategories are created, placement becomes more clear. I'm trying to fill out the bottom of the hierarchy so articles like Bus factor, Custom software development, and Point release can accurately be placed. - Category:Desktop environment stubs should be for articles related to desktop environments, which is software like the Windows shell, Aqua, GNOME, and KDE. It's a type of software, not a subtopic of graphical user interfaces. Articles like Adjustment handles, Affective design, Clickable, and Flip page are used in all kinds of software, so I'd put them in GUI stubs. Articles like At Ease and Desktop customization belong in Category:Desktop environment stubs. - I don't mind if this is an upmerge template for Category:Software type stubs instead of Category:Computing stubs. Surprisingly, very few of these are broken down by country. Now, the category isn't exactly oversized yet, but I think it could still stand work. So here's what I suggest: creation of all the following that don't exist yet.
Category:French sculptor stubs, Category:Italian sculptor stubs, and Category:United Kingdom sculptor stubs all exist, as does Category:Serbian sculptor stubs. The latter only has seven articles, and can be happily dismantled, I think. That should pave the way for a general-use Category:European sculptor stubs. Several comments -
- since we already have {{fem-stub}} for articles relating to feminism, perhaps {{fem-history-stub}} would be better? I realise the two topics are not identical, but there would be considerable overlap.
- we've largely moved to using "history" rather than "hist", though hist would still be suitable for a redirect.
- I'm not really in favour of a separate woman-bio-stub using that name, since it's likely that many editors will misiterpret it to mean "biographies of women". A {{fem-bio-stub}}, for people associated with feminist studies or historically with women's causes would be approriate, though. Grutness...wha? 23:02, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know what the procedure is here, but just noting that I'd like to see this stub be created. It would be good to be able to identify articles about female historical figures, whether bios or not, that need to be expanded. They won't all be connected to feminism; in fact, most won't be.
- The idea for the Wikiproject Women's History arose out of the recent efforts to increase women's participation and visibility on Wikipedia, so it would help to have a stub tag to encourage article creation and expansion. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 07:02, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- I'm just concerned that some editors might assume {{women-bio-stub}} would be used for all biographical articles about women. There'd have to be pretty stringent wording of both the template and category, and regular checks (similar to the way that WP:Judaism try to make sure that Jewish-bio-stub is used for people notable for their connection to Judaism rather than simply people who follow the Jewish faith). Grutness...wha? 21:30, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

- Reiterating request. This proposal was made in the early days of the Women's History project, and some of these issues have been discussed there. One of our obstacles at first was the tendency for eager editors to plaster every bio of a woman with the WH project banner, including BLPs of pop stars. We now have criteria to control that. The stub template, of course, is different, since it's independent of the project per se, while useful to it. The stub template in my view is not meant for biographies, but to facilitate the development of topics within women's history. Several needed articles have been mentioned at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women's History that could be begun as stubs. I ended up here today because I needed a stub template for Movement for the Ordination of Women that placed it within the field of women's history as well as Anglican church history. I'd like to start a stub for Ladies' aid societies, for instance. That said, there are a number of historically significant but lesser known women who are notable enough for articles, and whose articles might benefit from a debut as a stub that marks the topic as of interest to women's history. So I don't know what to do about that. But I would like to see a Women's History stub template become available. Cynwolfe (talk) 19:46, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- I think that the original requested wording was correct with the change to expanding hist to history. {{Women-history-stub}} and Category:Women's history stubs as a sub-category of Category:History stubs. Category:History stubs would be the top level category for these articles the same way that it is the top level category for stubs about Military history (which also contains biographies.) I would like to see this happen soon since the Women's History Project is working on locating existing articles and doing assessments. FloNight♥♥♥♥ 19:55, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

After sifting through the various Category:Hotel company stubs and the associated subcategories, I would like to suggest new templates and potential category. Notice that the existing templates and categories all carry company in the name. However, a quick perusal of the categories shows that this is abused, which a large share of the articles talking only about one particular structure.
While companies may be international, structures are specific to a particular location. So, I don't see up front a need for a general-level hotel structure template. I would like to suggest the following:
- {{Africa-hotel-struct-stub}}
- {{Asia-hotel-struct-stub}}
- {{Europe-hotel-struct-stub}}
- {{NorthAm-hotel-struct-stub}}
- {{Oceania-hotel-struct-stub}}
- {{SouthAm-hotel-struct-stub}}
I would guess that there would be enough to create a category, so I will go ahead and request Category:Hotel (structure) stubs. Additional categories will be requested as the need arises. Main category here is Category:Hotels.
Template and category descriptions and categorizations will all be updated to reflect this differentiation. Unfortunately, this may undersize the recently created Category:Asian hotel company stubs and Category:European hotel company stubs. That can be dealt with as the need arises. Not yet overloaded (approaching 500 stubs), but there's significant undersorting, with flags simply being marked with a country-stub but not flag-stub.
The following upmerged templates may prove useful:
- {{US-flag-stub}} (at least 35 stubs)
- {{Canada-flag-stub}} (at least 35 stubs)
- {{Russia-flag-stub}} (at least 45 stubs)
Also, though we're steering away from continent-wide templates, splitting flags by continent may be a useful first step - so continent/region templates may be useful for the following:
- {{Europe-flag-stub}}
- {{Asia-flag-stub}}
- {{Africa-flag-stub}}
- {{Caribbean-flag-stub}}
The top three of them should reach the 60-stub threshold for separate categories, too. Grutness...wha? 23:35, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Support - for something like flags (where there are significantly fewer articles than there are about biographical subgroups) I think continent-wide templates aren't a bad idea. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Suggest the following upmerge templates.
- {{Estonia-opera-singer-stub}} (5 P)
- {{Bulgaria-opera-singer-stub}} (6 P)

- {{Romania-opera-singer-stub}} (6 P)
- {{Ukraine-opera-singer-stub}} (5 P)
- {{NewZealand-opera-singer-stub}} (5 P)
Except for New Zealand, these can help fill the proposed Category:European opera singer stubs. These will also eat up about a third of the articles currently tagged by {{opera-singer-stub}}. Dawynn (talk) 19:52, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

With several potewntial upmerge stub tags we certainly have more than 60 for this category (looking at the first 3 European entries on this list, I already reached 60), so I think that we should have this. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 06:20, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
