Soon will be around 800 stubs. I would recommend splitting by region of Vietnam in categories. The regions are as follows Northwest · Northeast · Red River Delta · North Central Coast · South Central Coast · Central Highlands · Southeast · Mekong River Delta
However I reckon it may be worth creating upmerged templates for every province of Vietnam if we are to consider the situation more long term. Sometime I'll get around to adding the communes of Vietnam which will make this split very reasonable. I propose creating the following templates and upmerging to the new regional splits. So for example CauMau-geo-stub would feed into Category:Mekong River Delta geography stubs. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:19, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Proposed categories
- Category:Northwest Vietnam geography stubs
- Category:Northeast Vietnam geography stubs
- Category:Red River Delta geography stubs
- Category:North Central Coast geography stubs
- Category:South Central Coast geography stubs
- Category:Central Highlands geography stubs
- Category:Southeast Vietnam geography stubs
- Category:Mekong River Delta geography stubs
Proposed templates for upmerging
- {{AnGiang-geo-stub}}, {{ThuaThienHue-geo-stub}} two minor corrections. Also I thought we used diacretics in template names, with redirects from names with out the diacertics, surely some of these need the diacretics. Besides all that I support the Idea. Templateing this by country, 2 questions remain.
- How do we deal with people who won medals competing for Serbia and Montenegro? Do we classify them under serbia-,Montenegro- templates or do we have a seperate template.
- How do we deal with people who won medals competing for the Unified team? Do we classift them as USSR-, their later nationality or with a UnifiedTeam- template? Waacstats (talk) 15:01, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Politics is the root of all problems huh? I'm not sure, perhaps administer both templates or use the perosns place of birth (either current day Serbia or Montenegro) to judge. you could always create templates to make it easier. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:49, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

my first nomination here. There are about 30 article can fit into this type.--Chanaka L (talk) 17:58, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Categories require 60 articles minimum. I would support {{SriLanka-film-stub}} though. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:00, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- Right then, give us {{SriLanka-film-stub}}. Cheers!--Chanaka L (talk) 18:05, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Sure, I'm certain the others will have no objection. Perhaps you could stub 30 films and make the category viable? Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:41, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
If you want to go ahead and create the category if you intend to ensure there are at least 60 asap then I have no objections either. But that would probably require more input from the others so I should wait for that. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:47, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you Dr.Blofeld, about category; I usually don't write film articles. I wanted it for maintenance purposes. But in a year or so we'll have that much. Let's see then. Best of Luck!--Chanaka L (talk) 04:07, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Split of Category:Algae stubs
Bot generated now has 3000 stubs. Any suggestions? Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:55, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Could split by main Category:Algae taxonomic classes but could probably still use further divisional split. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:57, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- We now have over 5000. The two existing sub-categories appear to be classes, so lets start with that level and see how we do. Only problem is not all the classes have articles yet. Waacstats (talk) 15:14, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
A matter of time perhaps... Really we ought to contact the bot runner and get him to come to an agreement with stub sorting. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:47, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
By-country templates for Euro-archaeology?
Category:European archaeology stubs is of moderate size, and a by-country template split looks desirable (a UK-archaeology-stub would easily pass threshold, as well). Problem is, of course, that we're dealing with ancient history in countries notorious for the changes in borders over that time. Personally, I'd favour the usual "current borders" principle, but if there are better ideas, voice 'em. I'd like to at least propose a {{UK-archaeology-stub}} / Category:United Kingdom archaeology stubs, and suggest debating on the rest. Grutness...wha? 01:06, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- Permanent parent cat is split by curent nation so I see no problem in by country templates, categories for any that reach 60.Waacstats (talk) 11:00, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

This upmerged stub is over 200 and should definitely be upmerged. Speedy?--TM 16:45, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- Currently {{library-stub}} has its own category, Category:Library and information science stubs. Which template are you seeing that is upmerged? Should there be a separate {{library-struct-stub}}? Pegship (talk) 18:44, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- Ahh, I see. I thought it was an upmerged template already. Well, {{library-struct-stub}} is what I meant and I think it is needed.--TM 00:59, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- A quick CatScan shows well over 65 articles which would qualify for {{library-struct-stub}}, so I support. Cheers, Pegship (talk) 22:00, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Propose:
- Euro-split of {{Castle-stub}}, ie, the break-out of Category:European castle stubs + upmerged {{''Country''-castle-stub}}s as required, on the same lines as the Euro-church-stubs HeartofaDog (talk) 14:25, 19 February 2009 (UTC);
- (speedy) creation of {{France-castle-stub}} + Category:French castle stubs, as there are now 75+ of them HeartofaDog (talk) 23:04, 19 February 2009 (UTC):
- I have no objection to a euro cat, but think that it is a bit small for now, would rather split out the countries that have 60+ into categories and see what is left. As it is with the French category would leave just 350 articles.Waacstats (talk) 08:41, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, requesting category for currently-upmerged stub {{LGBT-bio-stub}} as it now contains 60 articles. Not sure what the standard naming is, but recommend avoiding "LGBT people stubs" as the stub's scope does include people who are not lesbian/gay but are relevent in other ways. (maybe "LGBT biographical stubs" or something similar?) Thanks, Outsider80 (talk) 05:39, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- I am not sure on this one. I think it might be better to create separate stubs like {{LGBT-writer-stub}} and {{LGBT-activist-stub}} rather than a general -bio stub.--TM 16:48, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- The LGBT-bio-stub already exists, it is just upmerged into LGBT-stubs category. If it does continue to exist as a stub type, moving it to its own category would help unclutter the parent category & make the bio stubs easier to find. LGBT-activist-stub also already exists as a stub and category and is populated. Good idea on the writer stub, I didn't realize how many there were (26 writer stubs within the 60 bio stubs). I went through LGBT-bio-stubs & the break-down is:
- Writers of LGBT topics/themes: 26 stubs
- LGBT-history related bio stubs (bio stubs with historical significance which do not fall under "writer" or "activist" qualifiers, including also victims of hate crimes): 18 stubs
- Other -- Artists: only 7, Film-related bio: only 2, Music artsts: only 3, TV-related: only 1
- thoughts? Outsider80 (talk) 20:38, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

- I'd definitely support the original proposal. There were 53 such stubs two days ago and the number is increasing daily. If not for my recent health problems I'd have probably proposed this myself by now. Though I can see the reasoning behind Thomas's counterproposal, I think that a basic LGBT bio category makes sense as an initial move to empty out the LGBT stub category. It would also be a reasonable parent type for the existing activist category. The idea of creating a separate template for writers has its merits, though that's perhaps less urgent. Propose finishing off the split of this cat with the remaining upmerged templates. It may require the reation of templates for historic nations such as {{Bohemia-Olympic-medalist-stub}}, do we want to do this (I think we already have USSR-, Czechoslovakia- and Yugoslavia-) and if so do we upmerge them to the relevent current countries stub cat? We already have 23 categories and 2 upmerged templates. Waacstats (talk) 12:10, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

- I see what you mean. I am not sure that many countries have 60+ RC Cathedrals - presumably there wd be no problem breaking out the ones that do at the appropriate time and leaving the remainder permanently in RC-cathedral?
- Or do you want to rethink the whole RC-church thing, and just have churches and cathedrals by country? There is certainly about to be a difficulty - in RC countries - with the overlap / duplication between Foo-church-stub and RC-foo-church-stub - (eg) RC churches in France / Churches in France. Hi all - subsequent to the recent LGBT split proposal, I'd like to propose two more upmerged templates - {{LGBT-mag-stub}} and {{LGBT-newspaper-stub}}. Looks like they'll each take about 30 articles. I've also inadvertently speedied both Category:LGBT organization stubs and Category:LGBT law stubs, but both should get close to three figures, so hopefully no damage done. Propose creating templates for all countries for {{Africa-sports-venue-stub}}, as has been done with biographies. This will make sorting stubs into building and structures stub categories much easier and eliminate significant needless double stubbing.--TM 20:57, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Disambiguation of, part two. (Part one was in December.)
Diving stubs have been re-tagged with one of four templates, as follows:
- {{Underwater-diving-stub}}: 129 stubs
- {{Underwater-diving-bio-stub}}: 20 stubs
- {{Acrobatics-diving-stub}}: 1 stub
- {{Acrobatics-diving-bio-stub}}: 290 stubs
If I recall the threshold guidelines correctly, that means that Underwater-diving-stub and Acrobatics-diving-bio-stub qualify for their own categories, Underwater-diving-bio-stub should be upmerged, and Acrobatics-diving-stub... I don't know: does it get a category in order to hold the bio subcat, or does it just get bypassed?
The other question to be settled before proceeding is: Does either type of stub get to keep the existing Category:Diving stubs and Category:Diving biography stubs, or do we mark those as ambiguous and create new categories for both of the precise types? —Paul A (talk) 01:32, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- Mmmmm. That's a tricky one. I'd be loath to split them much more than that, or upmerge, for that matter, given the numbers involved. The best thing might to have the diving bio stubs populating two categories each, giving:
- Category:Diving stubs (no stubs, three subcategories - "parent only" type)
- Category:Underwater diving stubs (149 stubs, fed by both the base and bio stubs)
- Category:Diving (acrobatics) stubs (291 stubs, fed by both the base and bio stubs)
- Category:Diving biography stubs (310 stubs, fed by both bio types, as per current use)
- Category:Diving stubs (no stubs, three subcategories - "parent only" type)

To mirror previous categories of Category:European film stubs and Category:African film stubs. I'm currently adding the 703 communes of Mali. With some seperate towns and villages it will soon be around 1000+.
It is an early stage given that we only have around 200 Mali stubs at present but I can assure you that it will need to be done eventually and within a week or two. I propose the creation of the following templates by Regions of Mali -they will all expect Bamako be viable for seperate categories as I work through them. At present I believe the only one viable for category is the Kayes region.
Proposal:
- {{Gao-geo-stub}}
- {{Kayes-geo-stub}} 100+ stubs already cat?? Category:Kayes Region geography stubs
- {{Koulikoro-geo-stub}} Category:Koulikoro Region geography stubs -this is around *60* but there is still a lag of about 35. Should be nearer 80 in an hour or two..
- {{Mopti-geo-stub}}
- {{Ségou-geo-stub}}
- {{Sikasso-geo-stub}}
- {{Tombouctou-geo-stub}}
- {{Bamako-geo-stub}} -for articles on places and suburns of the city district.
Dr. Blofeld White cat 01:17, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- support templates with the following changes GaoML - there is apparently a Geo district in Burkina Faso, KayesML - there is a Kayes in Congo and SégouML - there is a village in Togo. I don't think we need region in the template but certainly when categories are created (And I Support these once they reach 60) i think it should be of the form FCategory:Foo Region geography stubs. Waacstats (talk) 09:22, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Ah yes of course, thanks for the note. Actually I think we can get away with them blank though. You see Kayes is only a small town in Congo, it will never get to the stage where we would need stub templates. Kayes in Mali is a region, cercle, commune and town. Also "Geo" district is also a different spelling and is a smaller disrtrict that is also unlikely to have a template created for it. Segou is only a village in TOgo whereas it is a region, cercle, commune and city. The region is probably the size of England at least. If you look on a world map you'll see these names have priority. There shouldn't be any problems without the ML, if in the unlikely event that conflicting tmeplates needed to be made in the future then we can always add an abbreviation after the new ones. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:25, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- thanks for that, I am happy that Segou and Kayes probably don't need disambig (we don't have templates for american towns of the same size) and the "Geo" was a misspelling on my part according to Gao (disambiguation) but seen as we don't even have an article yet I'm sure a template is many years off unless someone does a good going over of Burkina Faso. I propose to create a new stub called Haringey borough stub it can be found on my user page User:L07ChLeo3 I have been researching and I have found that it can be used on well over 60 articles as their are many Haringey related articles which are small enough to be counted as stubs L07ChLeo3 14:29, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- Seems reasonable for an upmerged template at least; Category:London geography stubs is around 580, with no current splits by borough. Pegship (talk) 20:57, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- Support, but... are you looking at a general stub (for non-geographic items) or a geo-stub (for geographic items)? Personally I'd suggest having both, but upmerging them in different ways
- {{Haringey-geo-stub}}, upmerged for now into Category:London geography stubs and
- {{Haringey-stub}}, upmerged for now into Category:London stubs.
- If either of them get 60 stubs, then separate categories could be created, or if they have 60 between them they could both feed a new Category:Haringey stubs, with the geo one also still feeding the London geo category. Grutness...wha? 22:45, 8 February 2009 (UTC) (native of nearby Barnet)

Category is oversized, I see two options one is to split out E/W Germany with
- Category:East German Olympic medalist stubs - {{EastGermany-Olympic-medalist-stub}}

or to split by sport as we have with the US where the following would all be viable

- Category:German canoeist Olympic medalist stubs - {{Germany-canoe-Olympic-medalist-stub}}
- Category:German handball Olympic medalist stubs - {{Germany-handball-Olympic-medalist-stub}}
- Category:German swimming Olympic medalist stubs - {{Germany-swimming-Olympic-medalist-stub}}

- I'm not sure what is standard naming practice with these, but {{Foo-Olympic-bar-medalist-stub}} (e.g., Germany-Olympic-swimming-medallist-stub}} would flow better, IMO (and yes, for continental Europe we'd normally use UK spelling, so they should all be "medallist". This, however, probably needs to wait for the outcome of a massive renaming of permcats which i think may be called for, so going with one -l- for now but keeping an eye out for future changes is possibly the best option). Grutness...wha? 00:58, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- If we go with the Foo-Olympic-bar then the US subcats (the only other country we have split this way) need to be renamed. I agree that we probably do need a rename to medallist at some point.
