Wikipedia:WikiProject Reforming Wikipedia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to the project page for WikiProject Reforming Wikipedia (WRWP), an umbrella project for all Wikipedia reform operations. The goal of this project is to advocate for content and governance reforms that will facilitate higher-quality content and fairer, more efficient governance structures. This project will serve as a place where reform-supporting editors can discuss reforms and collaborate in the process of proposing them. If you want to learn more about our goals and/or join this project, more information is provided in the sections below. Any participant may present reform proposals following the steps listed in the relevant section, and discussion is encouraged on the talk page. Thank you for your interest in improving Wikipedia!

Our goals

[edit]

Our reform objectives are separated into two primary categories: Content and Governance. To see our goals for each category, you may read the summaries provided and click on the links to read a more detailed description.

  • Content – Advocate for the passage of policy reforms that will promote more verifiable content and the improved preservation of prose quality.
  • Governance – Urge the adoption of reforms that will improve ArbCom and community governance processes (such as XfD and the noticeboards), as well as ensure fair protections for all editors.

How to join

[edit]

You are not required to agree with all the goals listed above to join our project—willingness to collaborate on reform proposals for any area is welcome. To join our project, simply add your signature to the list below. You are encouraged to specify which area(s) you are interested in reforming, so that you can collaborate with other editors who share your goals. Note that in the near future, as the project grows, we may consider forming a newsletter, so all members will be notified if and when this occurs. Finally, you may wish to add the project's talk page to your watchlist, so as to be aware of any new discussion.

If you have joined, thank you for doing so! As mentioned above, you are welcome to discuss proposed improvements on the project talk page (please keep all discussion on that page) and propose reforms of your own via the process described in the flow chart below. You may also wish to add the project userbox to your userpage.

  1. Biblio (talk) 19:16, 25 June 2016 (UTC). Founder of project. Interested in reforming all areas.[reply]
  2. KSFTC 10:50, 27 June 2016 (UTC) This seems like an interesting project.[reply]
  3. Carrite (talk) 17:05, 28 June 2016 (UTC) — Not sure that this is an approach that will work but getting in line. Structural governance change of greatest interest.[reply]
  4. Catlemur (talk) 18:32, 28 June 2016 (UTC) — Interested in standardizing Wikiprojects.[reply]
  5. -NottNott|talk 17:19, 30 June 2016 (UTC) Definitely interesting. Governance areas in particular are in need of reform, but content is Wikipedia's bread and butter - focus is needed in both areas.[reply]
  6. Omni Flames (talk) 04:39, 2 July 2016 (UTC) - Sounds like an excellent idea for a project.[reply]
  7. User:Peter Damian — Improve content by making editing environment more attractive to specialists.
  8. Enterprisey (talk!(formerly APerson) 19:11, 3 July 2016 (UTC) — Sounds like an interesting project.[reply]
  9. - jc37 23:24, 8 July 2016 (UTC) - always interested in discussions of policy/process and how they can affect our editors and the project-as-a-whole : )[reply]
  10. BlAcKhAt9(9 (talk) 21:59, 31 July 2016 (UTC) - Interested in working on new templates that we can use for vandalism, and especially for non-vandalism things like non-notable list entries. It seems a little silly to fill up a new user's talk with so many ominous warnings for things like a single test edit.[reply]
  11. EllenCT (talk) - Soften WP:NOTDIR and WP:NOTHOWTO; unified and ranked WP:BACKLOG, among other things. 13:54, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  12. Gluons12 | 02:12, 8 November 2016 (UTC). Although I by no means agree with everything that this project might or will support, there are certainly many things on Wikipedia that could and should be improved.[reply]
  13. John Carter (talk) 17:14, 7 December 2016 (UTC) - Some sort of reform of the DRN processes seems called for, like the regular requests to reform ArbCom.[reply]
  14. Samee 23:27, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposals

[edit]

Any editor can make a proposal under this project and collaborate in the process of drafting possible reforms. See the flow chart below for more information.

Draft an outline of your proposal under a subpage of this project, and list it in the table below. Notify project members about your proposal on this project's talk page. If desired, gather feedback from the Village Pump idea lab. Expand your proposal. Detail the proposed changes and implementation details. Advertise your proposal as widely as possible. Post neutral notices on the centralized discussion template, Village Pumps, and relevant talk pages. For major proposals, a watchlist notice may be appropriate. Be sure to comply with the canvassing guideline. If the proposal succeeds, you have successfully advanced Wikipedia one step further. If it did not succeed, revise the proposal in accordance with community concerns or start again.
