Reliable Sources

[edit]

Reality television will not always have a lot of coverage, particularly if it is not a show on one of the major broadcast stations. You still have to be sure to always use reliable sources for what you put in an article. Especially when it comes to WP:BLP concerns when talking about the participants of reality TV. Unreliable blogs, forums and fan-sites do not cut it.

Reliable entertainment websites and magazines are more likely to have coverage of reality TV shows that general papers might not cover. Entertainment Tonight, Entertainment Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter, People, Variety, and Deadline Hollywood are all good options to start with. Gossip magazines and tabloids will also have coverage but be sure to check they aren't depreciated or unreliable.

If you are unsure about a source you can see if it is listed at WP:Perennial sources or it has been discussed at reliable sources noticeboard. Just search the archives and see if there are any previous discussions. If it hasn't been discussed previously you can start a discussion of your own. You can either start it on the RS noticeboard, or start one at the Reality TV Task force talk page, or the WP Television talk page. Depending on participation you may want to draw attention to it from the other talk pages.

Tagging and Assessment

[edit]

Any articles that are within the scope of this project should be tagged with {{WikiProject Television|class=|importance=|reality-tv=yes|reality-tv-importance=}} banner. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to help in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. They also play a role in the WP:1.0 program, which the WikiProject uses to help automate some of the assessing process. Due to the nature of some reality television shows, you may also want to tag the article with {{blpo}}

  • The template should be placed on the talk pages of relevant articles to put them under the project's radar. It looks like this:

This article is supported by the Reality television task force (assessed as Top-importance).

The assessment is done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Television}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Reality television articles by quality. WP:1.0 also produces a statistics page, and a log of articles assessed.
