WPPA was piloted by students participating in the Fall 2009 IUPUI Museum Studies Course MSTD-A416/A516. Students identified all of the public artworks on and nearby the IUPUI campus and then created articles about 40 individual public artworks, thereby creating the IUPUI Public Art Collection. The students created an article template, added GPS coordinates to all artworks in the collection, and engaged Wikipedia editors in discussions about original research, notability, and categories.
