Cambodia subpages
[edit]This page is the overview for four pages comprising lists of all places in Cambodia.
When checking, do not insert line breaks, change the order of field, or remove the wikilinks. These will throw an error on my screen when running the bot operation, and then I'll have to hunt and fix it! :) Do, however, check for:
- mistakes, or weird elements. Sometimes the indexed names include the coordinates or other numbers, particularly when there are multiple places with the same name.
- multiple occurrences of the same name - change the wikilink to disambiguate them, otherwise the latter articles will end up not being created (see below)
- blue links. Sometimes, the articles already exist (good!) or they are articles on different topics (bad). Either way, the bot is not intelligent enough to decide what it is doing, so is programmed simply to ignore pages that already exist. I will still write these out to a log to check for mistakes, but it would be best if we disambiguate the link at this stage.
The page links are:
Blue links have been checked - some of the place names have numbers in them such as (1), (2) etc - these will need mending - this notice was added after the checking was declared done - please can people check the numbers over. Many thanks Fritzpoll (talk) 12:31, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Please notify me once pages have been fully checked. Fritzpoll (talk) 16:09, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- We should really hold off creating these so that more info can be incorporated systematically. There is a 1998 survey with the total population, sex ratio, and number of households for each village. See e.g. the bottom of http://www.moc.gov.kh/national_data_resource/Provincial%20Resources/Ratanakiri/Index.htm (a page like this exists for every province). Mangostar (talk) 06:02, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Oops, those actually only go down to the commune level. (Communes aren't being included here are they?) Maybe we should hunt a bit more to see if village data is available. Mangostar (talk) 17:58, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yay! I found PDFs with population data for every village. See http://www.stats.nis.gov.kh/CENSUSES/villagegaz/p01.pdf et seq (eg. http://www.stats.nis.gov.kh/CENSUSES/villagegaz/p02.pdf). Mangostar (talk) 18:12, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hahahaha.... It looks as though the Cambodian government has let their domain name registration (.gov.kh) expire. Hopefully these links will be back working soon. Mangostar (talk) 02:57, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

- Also, why all the "Phumi"s? I may be mistaken, but I think that Phumi may just mean village, and should be omitted. Mangostar (talk) 17:59, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I think that is right. The govt listing of all villages never includes "Phumi".[1] Mangostar (talk) 18:12, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I'd be happy to help out - Cambodian geography is a speciality of mine. What needs to be done? All the redlinked articles I've seen here (and most satellite maps) use the abomination "Phumi" which sounds like a bastardisation of the Khmer word phum which just means 'village.' It's not appropriate to use in the name of an article. It's not used on any paper map of Cambodia I've ever seen (and I have many) only on the internet. Oh, I have the 1998 census Gazetteer if you need population data. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 17:42, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
