Our translation work to smaller Wikipedias is special in that it allows for high quality content to reach out to readers who might not be used to having any content. Therefore it is important that any content we translate through our project is of the same standard as content on the English Wikipedia.
Apart from this small Wikipedias are some of the easiest to integrate to, in part because there is most likely no previous content on the topic, and placing the article in main-space is relatively straight forward. Also if no templates exist, it is easy to install templates that are compatible with the translated content from the start. Installation[edit]The objects that need to work for our articles to be fully functional are:
Module/template installation only needs to be done once, for the first article integrated onto a target Wiki. If already done, jump down to Integration. Citations[edit]If these are not installed an article will end up looking like this: The templates/modules that need to be installed for this to work are the following:
Infobox[edit]We often use the template Template:Infobox disease, although some articles use Template:Infobox diagnostic or similar. Currently the best way to integrate is to replace with Infobox disease, as it carries most parameters that are necessary, even if the article in question doesn't cover a specific disease. In order to use the normal infobox a number of dependencies (up to 30) must be installed, notably MediaWiki:Common.css, which requires administrator/sysop access to modify on any WP. Instead a simpler version has been developed at Template:Infobox disease/simple, which only has a small number of dependencies: Note capitalization: These (including replacing target language Template:Infobox disease with the English Template:Infobox disease/simple) can be imported in the same way as citation templates. External links[edit]To be fleshed out Integration[edit]Integration is often very straight-forward. Once the articles are copied, attributed properly to both the English article page, as well as the translators at Translators Without Borders they only need to be added to Wikidata (guide coming soon) to ensure that they can be found when looking for them in the languages side-bar. Additionally, the articles should have their entries at RTT/Simple changed from Complete to Live. |
