The purpose of this page is to compile a list of articles and topics that might be of common interest to editors involved with WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration. These articles can be mentioned to new Users who join the WikiProject. Here are some ideas:
- Several editors in this WikiProject have collaborated on a "Did You Know" about Al-Azhar Mosque (now a B-class article), a 10th-century mosque and the first mosque founded in Cairo. Al-Azhar Mosque is associated with Al-Azhar University, a top university for studying Sunni Islam and the second-oldest continuously run university in the world.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Ottoman Empire: The Ottoman Empire was a previous owner of Israel and Palestine, during a somewhat different period in its history. User:AFriedman regularly contributes to several Ottoman Empire articles, most notably Sabbatai Zvi (a highly original Jewish thinker who pioneered the concept of "holy sin" and converted to Islam late in life) and Dönmeh (a group of Jews who followed Zvi into Islam but continued to practice Sabbateanism).
- West-Eastern Divan (orchestra): an orchestra co-founded by Edward Said and Daniel Barenboim, whose musicians hail from all over the Middle East. The orchestra was founded to promote understanding between Israelis and Palestinians and pave the way for a peaceful solution to the conflict. The article is currently start-class. In addition, the article about Daniel Barenboim is still only B-class and could use being brought up to the level of the Edward Said article.
- And finally, if you appreciate fierce and spunky little things, you may also be interested in weasels. The relatives of weasels, the Mustelidae, have an illustrious history of audacity and many are irresistibly cute. Israel and Palestine are blessed with several mustelid species, including the ratel, the Least weasel (the teddy-bear face in the photo), the Eurasian river otter, the European badger and the marbled polecat. There is an ongoing discussion on Wikipedia talk:Avoid weasel words about whether the name of the policy is too insulting to these animals. Please weigh in.
